Resistance of colon cancer cells to long-term 5-fluorouracil exposure is correlated to the relative level of Bcl-2 and Bcl-X(L) in addition to Bax and p53 status.

TL;DR: The ability to resist to 5‐fluorouracil‐induced apoptosis of 8 colon cancer cell lines differing in p53 and bax status is reported and high levels of anti‐apoptotic Bcl‐2 and B cl‐xL proteins combined with a low level of Bax were correlated to high 5‐FU resistance of wild‐type p53 cell lines.

Early Loss of E-cadherin from Cell-Cell Contacts Is Involved in the Onset of Anoikis in Enterocytes

TL;DR: The results stress the striking sensitivity of normal enterocytes to the loss of anchorage and the contribution of E-cadherin to the control of their survival/apoptosis balance and open new perspectives on the key role of this protein, which is dysregulated in the intestinal epithelium in both inflammatory bowel disease and cancer.
