Journal ArticleDOI
Symmetry-dependent field-free switching of perpendicular magnetization.
Liang Liu,Chenghang Zhou,Xinyu Shu,Changjian Li,Tieyang Zhao,Weinan Lin,Jinyu Deng,Qidong Xie,Shaohai Chen,Jing Zhou,Rui Guo,Han Wang,Jihang Yu,Shu Shi,Ping Yang,Stephen J. Pennycook,Aurelien Manchon,Jingsheng Chen +17 more
TL;DR: An out-of-plane SOT in an HM/FM bilayer of L11-ordered CuPt/CoPt and field-free switching of the perpendicular magnetization of the CoPt layer is observed, demonstrating the intrinsic nature of the 3m torque, which strongly depends on the relative orientation of the current flow and the crystal symmetry.
Journal ArticleDOI
Large spin-orbit torque efficiency enhanced by magnetic structure of collinear antiferromagnet IrMn.
Jing Zhou,Xiao Wang,Yaohua Liu,Jihang Yu,Huixia Fu,Liang Liu,Shaohai Chen,Jinyu Deng,Weinan Lin,Xinyu Shu,Herng Yau Yoong,Tao Hong,Masaaki Matsuda,Ping Yang,Stefan Adams,Binghai Yan,Xiufeng Han,Jingsheng Chen +17 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the magnetic structure of epitaxially grown L10-IrMn (a collinear AFM) is distinct from the widely presumed bulk one, and it is revealed that this magnetic structure induces a large isotropic bulk contribution and a comparable anisotropic interfacial contribution to the SOT efficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electrical switching of perpendicular magnetization in a single ferromagnetic layer
Liang Liu,Jihang Yu,Rafael González-Hernández,Rafael González-Hernández,Changjian Li,Jinyu Deng,Weinan Lin,Chenghang Zhou,Tiejun Zhou,Jing Zhou,Han Wang,Rui Guo,Herng Yau Yoong,Gan Moog Chow,Xiufeng Han,Bertrand Dupé,J. Železný,Jairo Sinova,Jingsheng Chen +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, a spin-orbit torque (SOT) switching in a single ferromagnetic layer induced by a new type of inversion asymmetry, the composition gradient, was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Free Field Electric Switching of Perpendicularly Magnetized Thin Film by Spin Current Gradient
Shaohai Chen,Jihang Yu,Qidong Xie,Xiangli Zhang,Weinan Lin,Liang Liu,Jing Zhou,Xinyu Shu,Rui Guo,Zongzhi Zhang,Jingsheng Chen +10 more
TL;DR: A new method of utilizing a W wedge in the Pt/W/FM structure to induce a spin current gradient, which can result in an in-plane equivalent field along the wedge thickness gradient direction is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Magnetic asymmetry induced anomalous spin-orbit torque in IrMn
Jing Zhou,Xinyu Shu,Yaohua Liu,Xiao Wang,Weinan Lin,Shaohai Chen,Liang Liu,Qidong Xie,Tao Hong,Ping Yang,Binghai Yan,Xiufeng Han,Jingsheng Chen +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate an anomalous spin-orbit torque induced by the broken magnetic symmetry in the antiferromagnet IrMn, which is consistent with both the symmetry analysis on the effects of a broken π-mirror symmetry and the theoretical predictions of the spin Hall effect and the Rashba-Edelstein effect.
