Realising the European Network of Biodosimetry (RENEB)
Ulrike Kulka,L. Ainsbury,Michael J. Atkinson,Joan Francesc Barquinero,Leonardo Barrios,Christina Beinke,G. Bognar,Alexandra Cucu,Firouz Darroudi,Paola Fattibene,Octávia Monteiro Gil,Eric Gregoire,Valeria Hadjidekova,Siamak Haghdoost,R. Herranz,Alicja Jaworska,Carita Lindholm,Radhia M'kacher,S. Popescu,María Jesús Prieto,Horst Romm,Kai Rothkamm,Laure Sabatier,Sylwester Sommer,Georgia I. Terzoudi,Antonella Testa,Hubert Thierens,François Trompier,I. Turai,Veerle Vandersickel,P. Vaz,P. Voisin,Anne Vral,Finn Ugletveit,Clemens Woda,Andrzej Wojcik +43 more
TL;DR: RENEB will provide a mechanism for quick, efficient and reliable support within the European radiation emergency management and concurrently contribute to increased safety in the field of radiation protection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Manual versus automated γ-H2AX foci analysis across five European laboratories: can this assay be used for rapid biodosimetry in a large scale radiation accident?
Kai Rothkamm,Stephen Barnard,Elizabeth A. Ainsbury,Jenna Al-hafidh,Joan Francesc Barquinero,Carita Lindholm,Jayne Moquet,Marjo Perälä,Sandrine Roch-Lefèvre,Harry Scherthan,Hubert Thierens,Anne Vral,Veerle Vandersickel +12 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the γ-H2AX assay may be useful for rapid triage following a recent acute radiation exposure and the potentially higher speed and convenience of automated relative to manual foci scoring needs to be balanced against its compromised accuracy and inability to detect partial body exposures.
Journal ArticleDOI
DNA-proportional distribution of radiation-induced chromosome aberrations analysed by fluorescence in situ hybridization painting of all chromosomes of a human female karyotype.
TL;DR: The assumption that the probability of a chromosome being involved in an exchange aberration is proportional to its DNA content is not supported by the present data.
Journal ArticleDOI
RENEB – Running the European Network of biological dosimetry and physical retrospective dosimetry
Ulrike Kulka,Michael Abend,Elizabeth A. Ainsbury,Christophe Badie,Joan Francesc Barquinero,Lleonard Barrios,Christina Beinke,Emanuela Bortolin,Alexandra Cucu,Andrea De Amicis,Inmaculada Domínguez,Paola Fattibene,Anne Marie Frøvig,Eric Gregoire,Kamile Guogyte,Valeria Hadjidekova,Alicja Jaworska,Ralf Kriehuber,Carita Lindholm,David Lloyd,Katalin Lumniczky,Fiona M. Terzoudi,Antonella Testa,Hubert Thierens,I. Turai,François Trompier,M. Valente,P. Vaz,Philippe Voisin,Anne Vral,Clemens Woda,D. Zafiropoulos,Andrzej Wojcik +55 more
TL;DR: RENEB is a European Network of biological and physical-retrospective dosimetry, with the capacity and capability to perform large-scale rapid individualized dose estimation and is able to contribute to radiological emergency preparedness and wider large- scale research projects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Translocation yields in peripheral blood lymphocytes from control populations
Caroline A. Whitehouse,Alan Edwards,Tawn Ej,G. Stephan,Ursula Oestreicher,Jayne Moquet,David Lloyd,Laurence Roy,P. Voisin,Carita Lindholm,Joan Francesc Barquinero,Leonardo Barrios,M. R. Caballín,Firouz Darroudi,Fomina J +14 more
TL;DR: There is a strong variation of translocation yield with age but no variation was detectable with gender or smoking habits, and a generic age-dependent control level can be assumed for retrospective biological dosimetry purposes.
