Journal ArticleDOI
Mid-trimester endovaginal sonography in women at high risk for spontaneous preterm birth.
John Owen,John Owen,Nicole P. Yost,Vincenzo Berghella,Elizabeth Thom,Melissa Swain,Gary A. Dildy,Gary A. Dildy,Menachem Miodovnik,Menachem Miodovnik,Oded Langer,Bahaeddine M Sibai,Bahaeddine M Sibai,Donald McNellis +13 more
TL;DR: Cervical length assessed by endovaginal sonography between 16 weeks' and 18 weeks 6 days' gestation, augmented by serial evaluations, predicts spontaneous preterm birth before 35 weeks' gestation in high-risk women.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Effectiveness and Costs of Elective Cesarean Delivery for Fetal Macrosomia Diagnosed by Ultrasound
TL;DR: For the 97% of pregnant women who are not diabetic, a policy of elective cesarean delivery for ultrasonographically diagnosed fetal macrosomia is medically and economically unsound, although in pregnancies complicated by diabetes, such a policy appears to be more tenable, although the merits of such an approach are debatable.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cerclage for short cervix on ultrasonography in women with singleton gestations and previous preterm birth: a meta-analysis.
TL;DR: In this article, a meta-analysis of randomized trials was performed to estimate if cerclage prevents preterm birth and perinatal mortality and morbidity in women with previous preterm births, singleton gestation, and short cervical length.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multicenter randomized trial of cerclage for preterm birth prevention in high-risk women with shortened midtrimester cervical length.
John Owen,Gary D.V. Hankins,Jay D. Iams,Vincenzo Berghella,Jeanne S. Sheffield,Annette Perez-Delboy,Robert Egerman,Deborah A. Wing,Mark Tomlinson,Richard K. Silver,Susan M. Ramin,Edwin R. Guzman,Michael C. Gordon,Helen Y. How,Eric Knudtson,Jeff M. Szychowski,Suzanne P. Cliver,John C. Hauth +17 more
TL;DR: In women with a prior spontaneous preterm birth less than 34 weeks and cervical length less than 25 mm, cerclage reduced previable birth and perinatal mortality but did not prevent birth more than 35 weeks, unless cervical length was less than 15 mm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Racial/ethnic standards for fetal growth: the NICHD Fetal Growth Studies
Germaine M. Buck Louis,Jagteshwar Grewal,Paul S. Albert,Anthony Sciscione,Deborah A. Wing,William A. Grobman,Roger B. Newman,Ronald J. Wapner,Mary E. D'Alton,Daniel W. Skupski,Michael P. Nageotte,Angela C. Ranzini,John Owen,Edward K. Chien,Sabrina D. Craigo,Mary L. Hediger,Sungduk Kim,Cuilin Zhang,Katherine L. Grantz +18 more
TL;DR: Significant differences in fetal growth were found among the 4 groups and racial/ethnic-specific standards were found to improve the precision in evaluating fetal growth.
