Journal ArticleDOI
Distribution of integrin cell adhesion receptors on normal bronchial epithelial cells and lung cancer cells in vitro and in vivo
TL;DR: This study defines the integrin repertoire of human bronchial epithelial cells and sets the stage for future investigations exploring how the regulation and signal transduction mechanisms of these receptors might affect important pulmonary processes such as bronchia cell differentiation, wound healing, and malignant transformation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression of integrin cell adhesion receptors during human airway epithelial repair in vivo
TL;DR: Injured epithelium was found to be significantly more susceptible to gene transfer with a recombinant adenovirus, suggesting that the increased integrin expression has implications for the acquisition of adenOVirus infections and for lung-directed gene therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Successful outcome of human metapneumovirus (hMPV) pneumonia in a lung transplant recipient treated with intravenous ribavirin.
K. Raza,Sameer B. Ismailjee,Maria Crespo,Sean M. Studer,Sonali K. Sanghavi,David L. Paterson,Eun J. Kwak,Charles R. Rinaldo,Joseph M. Pilewski,Kenneth R. McCurry,Shahid Husain +10 more
TL;DR: A case of h MPV pneumonia in a lung transplant recipient presenting with respiratory failure and sepsis syndrome is reported, and hMPV was diagnosed by polymerase chain reaction, and treated with intravenous ribavirin with a successful outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
AMPK agonists ameliorate sodium and fluid transport and inflammation in cystic fibrosis airway epithelial cells.
Michael M. Myerburg,J Darwin King,Nicholas M. Oyster,Adam Fitch,Amy Magill,Catherine J. Baty,Simon C. Watkins,Jay K. Kolls,Joseph M. Pilewski,Kenneth R. Hallows +9 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that novel therapies to activate AMPK in the CF airway may be beneficial by blunting excessive sodium and ASL absorption and by reducing excessive airway inflammation, which are major contributors to CF lung disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Randomized Controlled Trial of a Mobile Health Intervention to Promote Self-Management After Lung Transplantation.
A. DeVito Dabbs,Mi Kyung Song,Brad A. Myers,Ruosha Li,Robert P. Hawkins,Joseph M. Pilewski,Christian A. Bermudez,Jill Aubrecht,Alex Begey,Mary Connolly,Mohammad Alrawashdeh,Mary Amanda Dew +11 more
TL;DR: The positive impact of the mHealth intervention on self‐management behaviors suggests that the intervention holds promise and warrants further testing.
