Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Friction-Related Disease on the Severity of Dry Eye.
Chi Hoang Viet Vu,Motoko Kawashima,Masakazu Yamada,Kazuhisa Suwaki,Miki Uchino,Chika Shigeyasu,Yoshimune Hiratsuka,Norihiko Yokoi,Kazuo Tsubota +8 more
TL;DR: This study showed associations between MGD, FRD, or both and ocular signs in DED and TBUT was significantly shortened regardless of the dry eye status or subtype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of heat shock protein 47, a collagen-binding chaperone, in lacrimal gland pathology in patients with cGVHD.
Yoko Ogawa,Mohammed S. Razzaque,Kaori Kameyama,Go Hasegawa,Shigeto Shimmura,Masataka Kawai,Shinichiro Okamoto,Yasuo Ikeda,Kazuo Tsubota,Yutaka Kawakami,Masataka Kuwana +10 more
TL;DR: It is likely that fibroblasts incapable of myofibroblastic transformation are the main source of HSP47 and collagen production, and the resultant effect is the periductal fibrotic changes seen in lacrimal glands of patients with cGVHD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transplantation of side population cells restores the function of damaged exocrine glands through clusterin
Kenji Mishima,Kenji Mishima,Hiroko Inoue,Tatsuaki Nishiyama,Yo Mabuchi,Yusuke Amano,Fumio Ide,Makoto Matsui,Hiroyuki Yamada,Gou Yamamoto,Junichi Tanaka,Rika Yasuhara,Takashi Sakurai,Masaichi Chang Il Lee,Kan Chiba,Hidetoshi Sumimoto,Yutaka Kawakami,Yumi Matsuzaki,Kazuo Tsubota,Ichiro Saito +19 more
TL;DR: It is clarified that endothelial cell‐derived clusterin, a secretory protein, was an essential factor for SP cell‐mediated recovery of the hypofunctioning glands because SP cells isolated from salivary glands of clusterin‐deficient mice had no therapeutic potential, whereas lentiviral transduction of clustersin restored the hyp ofunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Skin-Derived Precursors as a Source of Progenitors for Corneal Endothelial Regeneration.
Emi Inagaki,Shin Hatou,Kazunari Higa,Satoru Yoshida,Shinsuke Shibata,Hideyuki Okano,Kazuo Tsubota,Shigeto Shimmura +7 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that skin‐derived precursors may be used as a source of autologous cells for the treatment of corneal endothelial disease and transplanted corneas also maintained cornean transparency and thickness.
Journal ArticleDOI
N-cadherin in the maintenance of human corneal limbal epithelial progenitor cells in vitro.
Kazunari Higa,Shigeto Shimmura,Shigeto Shimmura,Hideyuki Miyashita,Naoko Kato,Yoko Ogawa,Tetsuya Kawakita,Tetsuya Kawakita,Jun Shimazaki,Jun Shimazaki,Kazuo Tsubota,Kazuo Tsubota +11 more
TL;DR: N-cad plays a pivotal role in the maintenance of the progenitor phenotype in cultured limbal epithelial cells.
