Journal ArticleDOI
Induction of vanilloid receptor channel activity by protein kinase C
TL;DR: It is shown that activation of protein kinase C (PKC) induces VR1 channel activity at room temperature in the absence of any other agonist, suggesting that PKC may link a range of stimuli to the activation of VRs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Excitatory glycine receptors containing the NR3 family of NMDA receptor subunits
Jon E. Chatterton,Marc Awobuluyi,Louis S. Premkumar,Hiroto Takahashi,Maria Talantova,Yeonsook Shin,Yeonsook Shin,Jiankun Cui,Shichun Tu,Kevin A. Sevarino,Nobuki Nakanishi,Gang Tong,Gang Tong,Stuart A. Lipton,Dongxian Zhang +14 more
TL;DR: The cloning and characterization of the final member of the NMDAR family, NR3B, is reported, which shares high sequence homology with NR3A and is expressed predominantly in motor neurons, whereasNR3A is more widely distributed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sensitization and translocation of TRPV1 by insulin and IGF-I
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that both insulin and IGF-I enhance TRPV1-mediated membrane currents in heterologous expression systems and cultured dorsal root ganglion neurons, establishing a link between the insulin family of trophic factors and vanilloid receptors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization and comparison of the NR3A subunit of the NMDA receptor in recombinant systems and primary cortical neurons.
Yasnory F. Sasaki,Yasnory F. Sasaki,Thomas Rothe,Thomas Rothe,Louis S. Premkumar,Saumya Das,Jiankun Cui,Maria Talantova,Hon-Kit Wong,Xiandi Gong,Shing Fai Chan,Dongxian Zhang,Dongxian Zhang,Dongxian Zhang,Nobuki Nakanishi,Nobuki Nakanishi,Nikolaus J. Sucher,Stuart A. Lipton,Stuart A. Lipton,Stuart A. Lipton +19 more
TL;DR: It is shown that recombinantly expressedNR3A in COS cells is biochemically associated with both NR1 and NR2 subunits, and whole cell NMDA-evoked currents are larger in NR3A-deficient mice compared with wild-type mice, and this effect follows a developmental pattern similar to that of NR3B protein expression on Western blots.
Journal ArticleDOI
Downregulation of Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 8 by Protein Kinase C-Mediated Dephosphorylation
TL;DR: It is shown that TRPM8 is functionally downregulated by activation of protein kinase C (PKC) resulting in inhibition of membrane currents and increases in intracellular Ca2+ compared with upregulation of TRPV1 in cloned and native receptors.
