Journal ArticleDOI
Duration of exposure to gluten and risk for autoimmune disorders in patients with celiac disease
TL;DR: The data show for the first time that the prevalence of autoimmune disorders in celiac disease is related to the duration of exposure to gluten.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hla types in celiac disease patients not carrying the DQA1*05-DQB1*02 (DQ2) heterodimer: results from the european genetics cluster on celiac disease
Kati Karell,A.S. Louka,S J Moodie,Henry Ascher,F. Clot,Luigi Greco,Paul J. Ciclitira,Ludvig M. Sollid,Jukka Partanen +8 more
TL;DR: The results underline the primary importance of HLA-DQ alleles in susceptibility to celiac disease, and the extreme rarity of celiac patients carrying neither the D Q2 or DQ8 heterodimers nor one half of the DQ2 heterodimer alone.
Journal ArticleDOI
The first large population based twin study of coeliac disease
Luigi Greco,R Romino,Iolanda Coto,N Di Cosmo,S. Percopo,Maria Maglio,F. Paparo,Valeria Gasperi,M.G. Limongelli,Rodolfo Cotichini,C. D'Agate,Nadia Tinto,Lucia Sacchetti,Roberto Tosi,Maria Antonietta Stazi +14 more
TL;DR: This study provides substantial evidence for a very strong genetic component in coeliac disease, which is only partially due to the HLA region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized Feeding Intervention in Infants at High Risk for Celiac Disease
Sabine L. Vriezinga,Renata Auricchio,E. Bravi,Gemma Castillejo,A. Chmielewska,P. Crespo Escobar,Sanja Kolaček,Sibylle Koletzko,Ilma Rita Korponay-Szabó,E. Mearin +32 more
TL;DR: The introduction of small quantities of gluten at 16 to 24 weeks of age did not reduce the risk of celiac disease by 3 years of age in this group of high-risk children, and breast-feeding did not significantly influence the development of Celiac disease or the effect of the intervention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies in celiac disease and rheumatoid arthritis identifies fourteen non-HLA shared loci

Gregersen,Jane Worthington,Katherine A. Siminovitch,Lars Klareskog,Tom W J Huizinga,Cisca Wijmenga,Robert M. Plenge,Robert M. Plenge +36 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed a meta-analysis of two published GWAS on celiac disease (CD) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and genotyped the top associated single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in independent set of 2169 CD cases and 2255 controls, and 2845 RA cases and 4944 controls.
