TL;DR: It is shown that cacti are among the most threatened taxonomic groups assessed to date, with 31% of the 1,478 evaluated species threatened, demonstrating the high anthropogenic pressures on biodiversity in arid lands.

Chromosome Numbers in Some Cacti of Western North America — IX
Marc A. Baker,Donald J. Pinkava +1 more
TL;DR: Four species are here newly published as interspecific hybrids based, in part, on several character states intermediate of their respective sympatric putative parents: Cylindropuntia ×cardenche (GRIFFITHS) PINKAVA & M.M.ZIMMERMAN, and Opuntia streptacantha LEMAIRE × O. tomentosa SALM-DYCK.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogenomics in Cactaceae: A case study using the chollas sensu lato (Cylindropuntieae, Opuntioideae) reveals a common pattern out of the Chihuahuan and Sonoran deserts.
Lucas C. Majure,Lucas C. Majure,Marc A. Baker,Michelle A. Cloud-Hughes,Andrew M. Salywon,Kurt M. Neubig +5 more
TL;DR: This study provides the first comprehensive plastome phylogeny for any clade within Cactaceae, and resolved the phylogeny of the chollas, including most interspecific and intraspecific relationships.
Journal ArticleDOI
A cytological and morphometric analysis of a triploid apomict, Opuntia xkelvinensis (subgenus Cylindropuntia, Cactaceae)
Marc A. Baker,Donald J. Pinkava +1 more
TL;DR: A morphometric analysis ofOpuntia spinosior, O. fulgida, and their putative hybrid was supplemented with cytogenetic data and pollen stainability for all OTUs and supported the hypothesis for the hybrid origin of O.×kelvinensis and indicated that limited backcrossing has occurred between them.
