Grip strength performance from 9431 participants of the GenoFit study: normative data and associated factors.
Jedd Pratt,Giuseppe De Vito,Marco Narici,Ricardo Segurado,Jackie Dolan,Judith Conroy,Colin Boreham +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a study aimed to establish normative data and low grip strength thresholds in a large adult population, and to examine associations between grip strength and clinically relevant health variables, such as lean mass, skeletal muscle index (SMI), fat mass, CR fitness, bone mineral density (BMD), android/gynoid ratio, disease prevalence and physical activity levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Peripheral impairments of oxidative metabolism after a 10-day bed rest are upstream of mitochondrial respiration.
Lucrezia Zuccarelli,Giovanni Baldassarre,Benedetta Magnesa,Cristina Degano,Marina Comelli,Mladen Gasparini,Giorgio Manferdelli,Mauro Marzorati,Irene Mavelli,Andrea Pilotto,Andrea Pilotto,Simone Porcelli,Simone Porcelli,Letizia Rasica,Boštjan Šimunič,Rado Pišot,Marco Narici,Bruno Grassi +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, 10 males performed an incremental exercise (to determine peak pulmonary VO2 (VO2 p)) and moderate-intensity exercises, before (PRE) and after (POST) bed rest.
Journal ArticleDOI
Muscle and tendon adaptations to moderate load eccentric vs. concentric resistance exercise in young and older males
Jonathan I. Quinlan,Martino V. Franchi,Nima Gharahdaghi,Francesca Badiali,Susan T. Francis,Andrew Hale,Bethan E. Phillips,Nathaniel J. Szewczyk,Nathaniel J. Szewczyk,Paul L. Greenhaff,Kenneth Smith,Constantinos N. Maganaris,Phillip J. Atherton,Marco Narici,Marco Narici +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the time course of muscle and tendon adaptations to submaximal (60% 1RM) and eccentric (ECC) contractions was investigated in both healthy young and older males.
Journal ArticleDOI
Maximal explosive power of the lower limbs before and after 35 days of bed rest under different diet energy intake
Enrico Rejc,Enrico Rejc,Pietro Enrico di Prampero,Stefano Lazzer,Bruno Grassi,Boštjan Šimunič,Rado Pišot,Guglielmo Antonutto,Marco Narici +8 more
TL;DR: The mitigation of loss of muscle mass by means of a moderate caloric diet restriction during prolonged inactivity was not sufficient for reducing the loss of maximal explosive power of the lower limbs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of 14 days of bed rest and following physical training on metabolic cost, mechanical work, and efficiency during walking in older and young healthy males
Mirco Floreani,Enrico Rejc,Enrico Rejc,Paolo Taboga,Paolo Taboga,Alessandro Ganzini,Rado Pišot,Boštjan Šimunič,Gianni Biolo,Carlo Reggiani,Angelina Passaro,Marco Narici,Joern Rittweger,Joern Rittweger,Pietro Enrico di Prampero,Stefano Lazzer +15 more
TL;DR: The fact that older adults showed greater Cw, overall higher co-contraction time of antagonist lower limb muscles, and lower efficiency compared to the young cohort throughout a wide range of walking speed may suggest that Older adults sacrificed economy of walking to improve stability.
