Journal ArticleDOI
Validation of the International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group rating scale for restless legs syndrome
Jun Horiguchi,Magdolna Hornyak,Ulrich Voderholzer,Meir H. Kryger,Robert Skomrow,Joseph F. Lipinski,Ahmed Masood,Barbara Phillips,Wolfgang H. Oertel,K. Stiasny,Shaun T. O'Keeffe,Alessandro Oldani,Marco Zucconi,William G. Ondo,Daniel L. Picchietti,J. Steven Poceta,Gerald B. Rich,Larry Scrima,Renata Shafor,Denise Sharon,Michael H. Silber,Robert C. Smith,Claudia Trenkwalder,Claudia Trenkwalder,Thomas C. Wetter,Juliane Winkelmann,Zeba Vanek,Mary L. Wagner,Arthur S. Walters +28 more
TL;DR: This scale meets performance criteria for a brief, patient completed instrument that can be used to assess RLS severity for purposes of clinical assessment, research, or therapeutic trials and supports a finding that RLS is a relatively uniform disorder in which the severity of the basic symptoms is strongly related to their impact on the patient's life.
Journal ArticleDOI
Successful treatment of the idiopathic restless legs syndrome in a randomized double-blind trial of oxycodone versus placebo.
Arthur S. Walters,Mary L. Wagner,Mary L. Wagner,Wayne A. Hening,Wayne A. Hening,Kenneth Grasing,Richard Mills,Sudhansu Chokroverty,Sudhansu Chokroverty,Neil B. Kavey +9 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that oxycodone is an effective treatment for RLS and PLMS and 10 of the 11 patients preferred oxy codone over placebo.
Journal ArticleDOI
Further studies on periodic limb movement disorder and restless legs syndrome in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Daniel L. Picchietti,Donna J. Underwood,Donna J. Underwood,William A. Farris,William A. Farris,Arthur S. Walters,Mona M. Shah,Ronald E. Dahl,Laura Trubnick,Michele A. Bertocci,Mary L. Wagner,Wayne A. Hening +11 more
TL;DR: Nine children with ADHD who had a PLMS index of >5 per hour of sleep had a long‐standing clinical history of sleep onset problems and/or maintenance problems thus meeting the criteria for Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD).
Journal ArticleDOI
Circadian rhythm of motor restlessness and sensory symptoms in the idiopathic Restless Legs Syndrome
Wayne A. Hening,A. S. Walters,A. S. Walters,Mary L. Wagner,Raymond C. Rosen,V. Chen,S. Kim,M. Shah,Oanh Thai +8 more
TL;DR: An independent circadian factor modulates the intensity of RLS, which seems to peak on the falling phase of the core temperature cycle, whose circadian rhythm appeared to be within the normal range for age.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term follow-up on restless legs syndrome patients treated with opioids.
Arthur S. Walters,Arthur S. Walters,Arthur S. Walters,Juliane Winkelmann,Claudia Trenkwalder,June M. Fry,Vandana Kataria,Mary L. Wagner,Rakesh Sharma,Wayne A. Hening,Wayne A. Hening,Liren Li +11 more
TL;DR: Polysomnography on seven patients with restless legs syndrome showed a tendency toward an improvement in all leg parameters and associated arousals as well as all sleep parameters, but patients on long‐term opioid therapy should be clinically or polysomNographically monitored periodically for the development of sleep apnea.
