Stable incorporation of plasmid DNA into higher plant cells: the molecular basis of crown gall tumorigenesis

TL;DR: It is presented that crown gall tumors are caused by the incorporation of part of a virulence plasmid carried by the inciting bacterium, Agrobacterium tumefaciens, and the relationship between this plant tumor and virally induced animal tumor systems is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plasmid required for virulence of Agrobacterium tumefaciens.

TL;DR: Findings establish unequivocally that the large plasmid determines virulence in Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain C-58.
Journal ArticleDOI

Agrobacterium tumefaciens DNA and PS8 bacteriophage DNA not detected in crown gall tumors

TL;DR: Renaturation kinetics of labeled Agrobacterium tumefaciens DNA are not influenced by addition of 10(4)-fold excess of crown gall tumor DNA, and PS8 bacteriophage DNA is not detected in crownGall tumor DNA under conditions that allow detection of 0.0007-0.001% added phage DNA.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic analysis of crown gall: Fine structure map of the T-DNA by site-directed mutagenesis

TL;DR: The map location of tumor-derived RNA transcribed from the T-DNA, the role of phytohormones in crown gall tumorigenesis and the eventual use of the Ti plasmid as a vehicle for introducing genes of choice into the genomes of higher plants are discussed.
