Global variation in the beta diversity of lake macrophytes is driven by environmental heterogeneity rather than latitude
Janne Alahuhta,Sarian Kosten,Munemitsu Akasaka,Dominique Auderset,Mattia M. Azzella,Rossano Bolpagni,Claudia Petean Bove,Patricia A. Chambers,Eglantine Chappuis,John S. Clayton,Mary de Winton,Frauke Ecke,Esperança Gacia,Gana Gecheva,Patrick Grillas,Jennifer Hauxwell,Seppo Hellsten,Jan Hjort,Mark V. Hoyer,Christiane Ilg,Agnieszka Kolada,Minna Kuoppala,Torben L. TL;DR: Gecheva et al. as mentioned in this paper proposed a method to identify the root cause of gender discrimination in the media and found that women are more likely to be discriminated against than men.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vegetation of Mediterranean temporary pools: a fading jewel?
TL;DR: In this paper, a study has been conducted associating an assessment of the pool losses between 1955 and 2001 using remote sensing, surveys of vegetation and water depth (in 2006) in 48 pools, and an estimation of the density and surface area of pools occurring within a 3 km radius around each of the sampled pools.
Book ChapterDOI
Richness and structure of plant communities in temporary pools from western Morocco: influence of human activities
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the species richness and the species composition of the vegetation of a sample of 30 pools in this region, in order to assess the structure of vegetation within pools and to evaluate the role of environmental and anthropogenic factors in their richness and species composition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ten-year dynamics of vegetation in a Mediterranean temporary pool in western Morocco
TL;DR: The aim of this work was to test the hypotheses that the species composition of the vegetation of one pool in Morocco change continuously along with rainfall fluctuations, that among the vegetation can be recognized Pool species and Opportunistic species with distinct dynamics in time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global patterns in the metacommunity structuring of lake macrophytes: regional variations and driving factors.
Janne Alahuhta,Janne Alahuhta,Marja Lindholm,Claudia Petean Bove,Eglantine Chappuis,John S. Clayton,Mary de Winton,Tõnu Feldmann,Frauke Ecke,Esperança Gacia,Patrick Grillas,Mark V. Hoyer,Lucinda B. Johnson,Agnieszka Kolada,Sarian Kosten,Torben L. Lauridsen,Balázs András Lukács,Marit Mjelde,Roger Paulo Mormul,Laila Rhazi,Mouhssine Rhazi,Laura Sass,Martin Søndergaard,Jun Xu,Jani Heino +24 more
TL;DR: The study found that niche filtering related to local lake-level environmental conditions was the dominant force structuring macrophytes within metacommunities and revealed that elevation range associated with climate and spatial location was important for Macrophytes based on the findings of the across-metacommunity analysis.
