Journal ArticleDOI
Localization of a breast cancer susceptibility gene, BRCA2, to chromosome 13q12-13
Richard Wooster,Susan L. Neuhausen,Jonathan Mangion,Yvette Quirk,D Ford,N. Collins,K. Nguyen,Sheila Seal,T.D. Tran,D. Averill,P Fields,Gill Marshall,Steven A. Narod,Gilbert M. Lenoir,Henry T. Lynch,Jean Feunteun,Peter Devilee,Cees J. Cornelisse,Fred H. Menko,Peter A. Daly,Wilma Ormiston,Ross McManus,Carole Pye,Cathryn M. Lewis,Lisa A. Cannon-Albright,Julian Peto,Bruce A.J. Ponder,Mark H. Skolnick,Douglas F. Easton,David E. Goldgar,Michael R. Stratton +30 more
TL;DR: This analysis localized a second breast cancer susceptibility locus, BRCA2, to a 6-centimorgan interval on chromosome 13q12-13, which preliminary evidence suggests suggests confers a high risk of breast cancer but does not confer a substantially elevated risk of ovarian cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cancer risks in two large breast cancer families linked to BRCA2 on chromosome 13q12-13.
Doug Easton,Linda Steele,P Fields,W. Ormiston,D. Averill,P A Daly,Ross McManus,Susan L. Neuhausen,D Ford,Richard Wooster,Lisa A. Cannon-Albright,Michael R. Stratton,David E. Goldgar +12 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the lifetime breast cancer risk in BRCA2 carriers, for at least a subset of mutations, is comparable to that for BRCa1.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Large Kindred With 17q-Linked Breast and Ovarian Cancer: Genetic, Phenotypic, and Genealogical Analysis
David E. Goldgar,P Fields,Cathryn M. Lewis,T.D. Tran,Lisa A. Cannon-Albright,John H. Ward,Jeff Swensen,Mark H. Skolnick +7 more
TL;DR: The mutation appears to confer a lower risk of cancer at younger ages than found in previous studies, and will be useful in longitudinal follow-up studies and in studies of the psychosocial implications of providing DNA diagnosis of BRCA1.
Journal Article
Chromosome 17q linkage studies of 18 Utah breast cancer kindreds
David E. Goldgar,Lisa A. Cannon-Albright,A.R. Oliphant,John H. Ward,G Linker,Jeffrey Swensen,T.D. Tran,P Fields,P Uharriet,Mark H. Skolnick +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, linkage results from the analysis of 18 Utah breast cancer kindreds are presented, for three 17q markers, and a hypothetical breast cancer pedigree is used to calculate gene carrier probabilities under the CASH model, illustrating some of the concerns regarding the use of this model to detect and exclude 17q linkage in breast cancer families.
Journal Article
A 45-year follow-up of kindred 107 and the search for BRCA2.
David E. Goldgar,Susan L. Neuhausen,Linda Steele,P Fields,John H. Ward,T.D. Tran,Ngyuen K,M. R. Stratton,D. F. Easton +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe updated information on a large breast cancer kindred (K107) that has been extensively studied since 1948 and identify many new cases of cancer in the family and have shown that this family is unlinked to BRCA1 as well as a number of other genes considered as candidates for breast cancer.
