Observation of room-temperature polar skyrmions
Sujit Das,Yun-Long Tang,Yun-Long Tang,Zijian Hong,M. A. P. Gonçalves,Margaret McCarter,Christoph Klewe,Kayla X. Nguyen,Fernando Gómez-Ortiz,P. Shafer,Elke Arenholz,Vladimir Stoica,Shang-Lin Hsu,Shang-Lin Hsu,Bo Wang,Colin Ophus,Jian Liu,Christopher T. Nelson,Sahar Saremi,Bhagwati Prasad,Antonio B. Mei,Darrell G. Schlom,Jorge Íñiguez,Pablo García-Fernández,David A. Muller,Long Qing Chen,Javier Junquera,Lane W. Martin,Lane W. Martin,Ramamoorthy Ramesh,Ramamoorthy Ramesh +30 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a room-temperature polar-skyrmion bubbles were discovered in a lead titanate layer confined by strontium titanate layers, which were imaged by atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Correlation-Driven Insulator-Metal Transition in Near-Ideal Vanadium Dioxide Films.
Alexander X. Gray,Alexander X. Gray,Jaewoo Jeong,N. P. Aetukuri,Patrick W. Granitzka,Patrick W. Granitzka,Zhao Chen,Zhao Chen,Roopali Kukreja,Roopali Kukreja,Daniel J. Higley,Daniel J. Higley,T. Chase,T. Chase,Alexander H. Reid,Hendrik Ohldag,Matthew A. Marcus,Andreas Scholl,A. T. Young,Andrew Doran,Catherine Jenkins,P. Shafer,Elke Arenholz,Mahesh G. Samant,S. S. P. Parkin,Hermann A. Dürr +25 more
TL;DR: It is shown that both the collapse of the insulating gap and the concomitant change in crystal symmetry in homogeneously strained single-crystalline VO_{2} films are preceded by the purely electronic softening of Coulomb correlations within V-V singlet dimers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct Detection of Pure ac Spin Current by X-Ray Pump-Probe Measurements
J. Li,J. Li,L. R. Shelford,P. Shafer,A. Tan,J. X. Deng,Paul Steven Keatley,Chanyong Hwang,Elke Arenholz,G. van der Laan,R. J. Hicken,Z. Q. Qiu +11 more
TL;DR: This element-resolved pump-probe measurement unambiguously identifies the ac spin current in the Cu_{75}Mn_{25} layer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nature of the Metal-Insulator Transition in Few-Unit-Cell-Thick LaNiO 3 Films
Maryam Golalikhani,Qingyu Lei,Ravini U. Chandrasena,Leila Kasaei,Hyowon Park,Jianming Bai,Pasquale Orgiani,Jim Ciston,George E. Sterbinsky,Dario Arena,P. Shafer,Elke Arenholz,Bruce A. Davidson,Bruce A. Davidson,Andrew J. Millis,Alexander X. Gray,Xiaoxing Xi +16 more
TL;DR: It is found that the room-temperature metallic behavior persists until the film thickness is reduced to an unprecedentedly small 1.5 unit cells (NiO2 termination).
Journal ArticleDOI
Nature of the metal-insulator transition in few-unit-cell-thick LaNiO3 films
Maryam Golalikhani,Qingyu Lei,Ravini U. Chandrasena,Leila Kasaei,Hyowon Park,Jianming Bai,Pasquale Orgiani,J. Ciston,George E. Sterbinsky,Dario Arena,P. Shafer,Elke Arenholz,Bruce A. Davidson,Andrew J. Millis,Alexander X. Gray,Xiaoxing Xi +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the metal insulator transition in thin films and superlattices of LaNiO3 with only few unit cells in thickness remains elusive despite tremendous effort, although other factors such as growth-induced disorder, cation non-stoichiometry, oxygen vacancies, and substrate-film interface quality may also affect the observable properties in the ultrathin films.
