Journal ArticleDOI
The combined functions of proapoptotic Bcl-2 family members bak and bax are essential for normal development of multiple tissues.
Tullia Lindsten,Andrea J. Ross,Ayala King,Wei-Xing Zong,Jeffrey C. Rathmell,Helena Shiels,Eugen Ulrich,Katrina G. Waymire,Patryce L. Mahar,Kenneth A. Frauwirth,Yifeng Chen,Michael C. Wei,Vicki M. Eng,David M. Adelman,M. Celeste Simon,Averil Ma,Jeffrey A. Golden,Gerard I. Evan,Stanley J. Korsmeyer,Grant R. MacGregor,Craig B. Thompson +20 more
TL;DR: Bax and Bak have overlapping roles in the regulation of apoptosis during mammalian development and tissue homeostasis and are found to be developmentally normal and reproductively fit.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human effector and memory CD8+ T cell responses to smallpox and yellow fever vaccines.
Joseph D. Miller,Robbert van der Most,Rama Akondy,John Glidewell,Sophia Albott,David Masopust,Kaja Murali-Krishna,Patryce L. Mahar,Srilatha Edupuganti,Susan Lalor,Stephanie Germon,Carlos del Rio,Mark J. Mulligan,Silvija I. Staprans,John D. Altman,Mark B. Feinberg,Rafi Ahmed +16 more
TL;DR: The results show that both vaccines generated a brisk primary effector CD8(+) T cell response of substantial magnitude that could be readily quantitated with a simple set of four phenotypic markers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spermatogenesis in Bclw-Deficient Mice
Lonnie D. Russell,Jeff Warren,Luciano Debeljuk,Laura L. Richardson,Patryce L. Mahar,Katrina G. Waymire,Scott P. Amy,Andrea J. Ross,Grant R. MacGregor +8 more
TL;DR: An RNA in situ hybridization study indicates that Bclw is expressed in Sertoli cells in the adult mouse testis, and loss of Leydig cells in B clw-deficient mice may result from depletion of SERToli cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Yellow fever virus 17D envelope and NS3 proteins are major targets of the antiviral T cell response in mice.
TL;DR: A characterization of YFV-17D-specific cellular immune responses was initiated and it was found that after abrogation of the dominant response in H-2Kb knockout mice, the frequencies of T cells recognizing the subdominant Db-restricted epitope increased dramatically.
Journal ArticleDOI
BCLW Mediates Survival of Postmitotic Sertoli Cells by Regulating BAX Activity
Andrea J. Ross,S P Amy,Patryce L. Mahar,Tullia Lindsten,C M Knudson,Craig B. Thompson,Stanley J. Korsmeyer,Grant R. MacGregor +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that BAX and BAK, two closely related death-promoting members of the BCL2 family, are expressed in Sertoli cells, and Bclw-independent pathways promote the survival of undifferentiated, mitotic SERToli cells.
