Journal ArticleDOI
Immune activation in patients with irritable bowel syndrome
Tobias Liebregts,B. Adam,Christoph Bredack,Alexander Röth,Susanne Heinzel,Susan C. Lester,Sarah Downie-Doyle,Eric Smith,Paul A. Drew,Nicholas J. Talley,Nicholas J. Talley,Gerald Holtmann +11 more
TL;DR: Patients with D-IBS display enhanced proinflammatory cytokine release, and this may be associated with symptoms and anxiety, and the results suggest that LPS-induced TNF-alpha production was associated significantly (r = 0.59, P < .001) with anxiety in patients with IBS.
Journal ArticleDOI
An autocrine TGF-β/ZEB/miR-200 signaling network regulates establishment and maintenance of epithelial-mesenchymal transition
Philip A. Gregory,Cameron P. Bracken,Cameron P. Bracken,Eric Smith,Andrew G. Bert,Josephine A. Wright,Josephine A. Wright,Suraya Roslan,Melanie Morris,Leila Wyatt,Leila Wyatt,Gelareh Farshid,Yat-Yuen Lim,Yat-Yuen Lim,Yat-Yuen Lim,Geoffrey J. Lindeman,M. Frances Shannon,Paul A. Drew,Yeesim Khew-Goodall,Yeesim Khew-Goodall,Gregory J. Goodall,Gregory J. Goodall +21 more
TL;DR: A signaling network involving autocrine TGF-β signaling, ZEB transcription factors, and the miR-200 family regulates interconversion between epithelial and mesenchymal states.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epigenetic modulation of the miR-200 family is associated with transition to a breast cancer stem-cell-like state.
Yat-Yuen Lim,Josephine A. Wright,Josephine A. Wright,Joanne L. Attema,Joanne L. Attema,Philip A. Gregory,Philip A. Gregory,Andrew G. Bert,Eric Smith,Daniel Thomas,Angel F. Lopez,Angel F. Lopez,Paul A. Drew,Yeesim Khew-Goodall,Yeesim Khew-Goodall,Gregory J. Goodall,Gregory J. Goodall +16 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the mechanisms controlling miR-200 expression revealed both DNA methylation and histone modifications were significantly altered in the stem-like and non-stem phenotypes and that distinct epigenetic-based mechanisms regulate each mi R-200 gene in this process.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reversal and prevention of arsenic-induced human bronchial epithelial cell malignant transformation by microRNA-200b
Zhishan Wang,Yong Zhao,Eric Smith,Gregory J. Goodall,Paul A. Drew,Thomas Brabletz,Chengfeng Yang +6 more
TL;DR: Findings establish for the first time a causal role for depletion of miR-200b expression in human cell malignant transformation and tumor formation resulting from arsenic exposure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-Wide Copy Number Analysis in Esophageal Adenocarcinoma Using High-Density Single-Nucleotide Polymorphism Arrays
Derek J. Nancarrow,Herlina Y. Handoko,B. Mark Smithers,David C. Gotley,Paul A. Drew,David I. Watson,Andrew D. Clouston,Nicholas K. Hayward,David C. Whiteman +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors applied whole-genome single-nucleotide polymorphism arrays to define a comprehensive genetic profile of 23 esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) primary tumor biopsies based on loss of heterozygosity and DNA copy number changes.
