Regional climate downscaling over Europe: perspectives from the EURO-CORDEX community
Daniela Jacob,Claas Teichmann,Stefan Sobolowski,Eleni Katragkou,Ivonne Anders,Michal Belda,Rasmus E. Benestad,Fredrik Boberg,Erasmo Buonomo,Erasmo Buonomo,Rita M. Cardoso,Ana Casanueva,Ole Bøssing Christensen,Jens Hesselbjerg Christensen,Jens Hesselbjerg Christensen,Erika Coppola,Lesley De Cruz,Edouard Davin,Andreas Dobler,Marta Domínguez,Rowan Fealy,Jesús Fernández,Miguel Ángel Gaertner,Markel García-Díez,Filippo Giorgi,Andreas Gobiet,Klaus Goergen,Juan José Gómez-Navarro,Juan Jesús González Alemán,Claudia Gutiérrez,José M. Gutiérrez,Ivan Güttler,Andreas Haensler,Tomas Halenka,Sonia Jerez,Pedro Jiménez-Guerrero,Richard G. Jones,Klaus Keuler,Erik Kjellström,Sebastian Knist,Sven Kotlarski,Douglas Maraun,Erik van Meijgaard,Paola Mercogliano,Juan Pedro Montávez,Antonio Navarra,Grigory Nikulin,Nathalie de Noblet-Ducoudré,Hans-Juergen Panitz,Susanne Pfeifer,Marie Piazza,Emanuela Pichelli,Joni-Pekka Pietikäinen,Andreas F. Soares,Samuel Somot,Lidija Srnec,Silje Lund Sørland,Piet Termonia,Piet Termonia,Heimo Truhetz,Robert Vautard,Kirsten Warrach-Sagi,Volker Wulfmeyer +69 more
TL;DR: The European CORDEX (EURO-CORDEX) initiative as discussed by the authors is a large voluntary effort that seeks to advance regional climate and Earth system science in Europe, which includes the design and coordination of ongoing ensembles of regional climate projections of unprecedented size and resolution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Scaling precipitation extremes with temperature in the Mediterranean: past climate assessment and projection in anthropogenic scenarios
Philippe Drobinski,Nicolas Da Silva,Gérémy Panthou,Sophie Bastin,Caroline Muller,Bodo Ahrens,Marco Borga,Dario Conte,Giorgia Fosser,Filippo Giorgi,Ivan Güttler,Vassiliki Kotroni,Laurent Li,Efrat Morin,Barış Önol,Pere Quintana-Seguí,Raquel Romera,Csaba Torma +17 more
TL;DR: This paper investigated the scaling of precipitation extremes with temperature in the Mediterranean region by assessing against observations the present day and future regional climate simulations performed in the frame of the HyMeX and MED-CORDEX programs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simulation of medicanes over the Mediterranean Sea in a regional climate model ensemble: impact of ocean–atmosphere coupling and increased resolution
Miguel Ángel Gaertner,Juan Jesús González-Alemán,Raquel Romera,Marta Domínguez,Victoria Gil,Enrique Sánchez,Clemente Gallardo,Mario Marcello Miglietta,Kevin Walsh,Dmitry Sein,Samuel Somot,Alessandro Dell'Aquila,Claas Teichmann,Bodo Ahrens,Erasmo Buonomo,Augustin Colette,Sophie Bastin,Erik van Meijgaard,Grigory Nikulin +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the ability of the RCMs used in these projects to reproduce the observed characteristics of medicanes, and the impact of increased resolution and air-sea coupling on their simulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regional modeling of dry spells over the Iberian Peninsula for present climate and climate change conditions
Enrique Sánchez,Marta Domínguez,Raquel Romera,Noelia López de la Franca,Miguel Ángel Gaertner,Clemente Gallardo,Manuel Moreno de Castro +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors focused on dry spell analysis have received much less attention, compared with the ones related to large precipitation conditions, and the modeling results indicate that future climate conditions point to more severe hydrological stresses over several regions in the Iberian Peninsula.
Journal ArticleDOI
Present-climate precipitation and temperature extremes over Spain from a set of high resolution RCMs
Marta Domínguez,Raquel Romera,Enrique Sánchez,Lluis Fita,Jesús Fernández,Pedro Jiménez-Guerrero,Juan Pedro Montávez,William Cabos,Giovanni Liguori,Miguel Ángel Gaertner +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, 5 regional climate model simulations were analyzed in terms of their representation of precipitation and temperature extremes over Spain, and the performance of the models depends on the climatic characteristics of the subregions.
