TL;DR: It is shown that acute cannabinoid-induced memory impairment in mice requires activation of hippocampal mtCB1 receptors, and this data reveal that bioenergetic processes are primary acute regulators of cognitive functions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glucose metabolism links astroglial mitochondria to cannabinoid effects
Daniel Jimenez-Blasco,Daniel Jimenez-Blasco,Arnau Busquets-Garcia,Arnau Busquets-Garcia,Etienne Hebert-Chatelain,Roman Serrat,Roman Serrat,Carlos Vicente-Gutierrez,Carlos Vicente-Gutierrez,Christina Ioannidou,Christina Ioannidou,Paula Gomez‐Sotres,Paula Gomez‐Sotres,Irene Lopez-Fabuel,Irene Lopez-Fabuel,Monica Resch-Beusher,Monica Resch-Beusher,Eva Resel,Eva Resel,Dorian Arnouil,Dorian Arnouil,Dave Saraswat,Dave Saraswat,Marjorie Varilh,Marjorie Varilh,Astrid Cannich,Astrid Cannich,Francisca Julio-Kalajzić,Francisca Julio-Kalajzić,Itziar Bonilla-Del Río,Angeles Almeida,Nagore Puente,Svein Achicallende,Maria-Luz Lopez-Rodriguez,Charlotte Jollé,Nicole Déglon,Luc Pellerin,Luc Pellerin,Luc Pellerin,Charlène Joséphine,Gilles Bonvento,Aude Panatier,Aude Panatier,Beat Lutz,Pier Vincenzo Piazza,Pier Vincenzo Piazza,Manuel Guzmán,Manuel Guzmán,Luigi Bellocchio,Luigi Bellocchio,Anne-Karine Bouzier-Sore,Pedro Grandes,Pedro Grandes,Juan P. Bolaños,Juan P. Bolaños,Giovanni Marsicano,Giovanni Marsicano +56 more
TL;DR: In mice, persistent activation of mitochondrial cannabinoid receptors in astroglia impairs cellular glucose metabolism and lactate production, leading to an increase in redox stress in neurons and altered behavioural responses.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Eutherian Armcx genes regulate mitochondrial trafficking in neurons and interact with Miro and Trak2.
Guillermo López-Doménech,Roman Serrat,Serena Mirra,Salvatore D'Aniello,Salvatore D'Aniello,Ildiko M. L. Somorjai,Ildiko M. L. Somorjai,Alba Abad,Nathalia Vitureira,Elena García-Arumí,Maria Teresa Alonso,Macarena Rodríguez-Prados,Ferran Burgaya,Antoni L. Andreu,Javier García-Sancho,Ramon Trullas,Jordi Garcia-Fernàndez,Eduardo Soriano +17 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that Armcx3 expression levels regulate mitochondrial dynamics and trafficking in neurons, and that Alex3 interacts with the Kinesin/Miro/Trak2 complex in a Ca(2+)-dependent manner.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondrial morphology and cellular distribution are altered in SPG31 patients and are linked to DRP1 hyperphosphorylation.
Julie Lavie,Julie Lavie,Roman Serrat,Roman Serrat,Nadège Bellance,Nadège Bellance,Gilles Courtand,Jean-William Dupuy,Christelle Tesson,Christelle Tesson,Isabelle Coupry,Isabelle Coupry,Alexis Brice,Didier Lacombe,Didier Lacombe,Alexandra Durr,Giovanni Stevanin,Giovanni Stevanin,Frédéric Darios,Rodrigue Rossignol,Rodrigue Rossignol,Cyril Goizet,Cyril Goizet,Giovanni Benard,Giovanni Benard +24 more
TL;DR: The results support the involvement of a mitochondrial dysfunction in SPG31 pathology and provide evidence that these morphological alterations are caused by the inhibition of mitochondrial fission protein, DRP1, due to the hyperphosphorylation of its serine 637 residue.
Journal ArticleDOI
The non-canonical Wnt/PKC pathway regulates mitochondrial dynamics through degradation of the arm-like domain-containing protein Alex3.
Roman Serrat,Guillermo López-Doménech,Serena Mirra,Martí Quevedo,Jordi Garcia-Fernàndez,Fausto Ulloa,Ferran Burgaya,Eduardo Soriano +7 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that the Wnt pathway regulates mitochondrial distribution and dynamics through Alex3 protein degradation, thereby rendering a mitochondrial phenotype and distribution similar to control patterns.
