Seetha Shankaran,Abbot R. Laptook,Richard A. Ehrenkranz,Jon E. Tyson,Scott A. McDonald,Edward F. Donovan,Avroy A. Fanaroff,W. Kenneth Poole,Linda L. Wright,Rosemary D. Higgins,Neil N. Finer,Waldemar A. Carlo,Shahnaz Duara,William Oh,C. Michael Cotten,David K. Stevenson,Barbara J. Stoll,James A. Lemons,Ronnie Guillet,Alan H. Jobe +19 more
TL;DR: Whole-body hypothermia reduces the risk of death or disability in infants with moderate or severe hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy and there was no increase in major disability among survivors.

TL;DR: The rate of the combined end point of death or an IQ score of less than 70 at 6 to 7 years of age was lower among children undergoing whole-body hypothermia than among those undergoing usual care, but the differences were not significant.

TL;DR: Neonatal AKI is a common and independent risk factor for mortality and longer hospital stay, and data suggest that neonates may be impacted by AKI in a manner similar to pediatric and adult patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of H2-blocker therapy and higher incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis in very low birth weight infants.
Ronnie Guillet,Barbara J. Stoll,C. Michael Cotten,Marie G. Gantz,Scott A. McDonald,W. Kenneth Poole,Dale L. Phelps +6 more
TL;DR: Data support the hypothesis that gastric pH level may be a factor in the pathogenesis of NEC and H2-blocker therapy was associated with higher rates of NEC, in agreement with a previous randomized trial of acidification of infant feeds that resulted in a decreased incidence of NEC.
