Serine proteases as luminal mediators of intestinal barrier dysfunction and symptom severity in IBS
Shoko Edogawa,Adam Edwinson,Stephanie A. Peters,Lakshmikanth L. Chikkamenahalli,Wendy Sundt,Sara I. Graves,Sakteesh V. Gurunathan,Margaret K. Breen-Lyles,Stephen Johnson,Roy B. Dyer,Rondell P. Graham,Jun Chen,Purna C. Kashyap,Gianrico Farrugia,Madhusudan Grover +14 more
TL;DR: A subset of patients with IBS, especially in PI-IBS, has substantially high faecal PA, greater symptoms, impaired barrier and reduced microbial diversity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ulcerative colitis is characterized by a plasmablast-skewed humoral response associated with disease activity
Mathieu Uzzan,Jerome Martin,Luka Mesin,Alexandra E. Livanos,Tomas Castro-Dopico,R Huang,Francesca Petralia,Giuliana Magri,Shashi Kumar,Qing Zhao,Adam K. Rosenstein,Minami Tokuyama,Keshav Sharma,Ryan C. Ungaro,Roman Kosoy,Divya Jha,J. Fischer,Harpriya Singh,Mary E. Keir,Nandhini Ramamoorthi,William E O' Gorman,Benjamin J. Randolph,Ephraim Kenigsberg,Jean-Frederic Colombel,Saurabh Mehandru +55 more
TL;DR: In this article , the compositional, transcriptional and clonotypic landscape of mucosal and circulating B cells were mapped using single-cell RNA sequencing, singlecell IgH gene sequencing and protein-level validation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sex differences in NSAID-induced perturbation of human intestinal barrier function and microbiota
Shoko Edogawa,Stephanie A. Peters,Gregory D. Jenkins,Sakteesh V. Gurunathan,Wendy Sundt,Stephen Johnson,Ryan J. Lennon,Roy B. Dyer,Michael Camilleri,Purna C. Kashyap,Gianrico Farrugia,Jun Chen,Ravinder J. Singh,Madhusudan Grover +13 more
TL;DR: Healthy women had lower intestinal permeability and higher duodenal and fecal microbial diversity than healthy men, and Gut microbiota in women is sensitive to perturbation but appears to be more stable in men.
Posted ContentDOI
Antimicrobial overproduction sustains intestinal inflammation by inhibiting Enterococcus colonization
Kyung Ku Jang,T. Heaney,Mariya London,Yi Ding,Frank Yeung,D. Ercelen,Ying-Han Chen,Jordan E. Axelrad,Sakteesh V. Gurunathan,A. Marijke Keestra-Gounder,Matthew E. Griffin,Howard C. Hang,Ken Cadwell +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors demonstrate that overproduction of REG3 proteins can also be detrimental by reducing a protective species in the microbiota and demonstrate that inflammation self-perpetuates by causing aberrant antimicrobial activity that disrupts symbiotic relationships with gut microbes.
Journal ArticleDOI
In-hospital outcomes of inflammatory bowel disease in patients hospitalized with acute coronary syndrome
Akil Adrian Sherif,Anil Jha,Nitish Sharma,Ahmed Sh. Mohamed,Ashwini Bhat,Ayita Ray,Pradnya Brijmohan Bhattad,Ibragim Al-Seykal,Kedar Mahagaokar,Khuzema Ghafoor,Yash Jobanputra,Ajay Mishra,Sakteesh V. Gurunathan,Mazen Roumia +13 more
