Journal ArticleDOI
Impaired type I interferon activity and inflammatory responses in severe COVID-19 patients.
Jérôme Hadjadj,Nader Yatim,Laura Barnabei,Aurélien Corneau,Jeremy Boussier,Nikaïa Smith,Hélène Péré,Bruno Charbit,Vincent Bondet,Camille Chenevier-Gobeaux,Paul Breillat,Nicolas Carlier,Rémy Gauzit,Caroline Morbieu,Frédéric Pène,Nathalie Marin,Nicolas Roche,Tali Anne Szwebel,Sarah H. Merkling,Jean-Marc Treluyer,David Veyer,Luc Mouthon,Catherine Blanc,Pierre-Louis Tharaux,Flore Rozenberg,Alain Fischer,Alain Fischer,Alain Fischer,Darragh Duffy,Frédéric Rieux-Laucat,Solen Kernéis,Solen Kernéis,Benjamin Terrier +32 more
TL;DR: The results of this trio of studies suggest that the location, timing, and duration of IFN exposure are critical parameters underlying the success or failure of therapeutics for viral respiratory infections.

Impaired type I interferon activity and exacerbated inflammatory responses in severe Covid-19 patients
Jérôme Hadjadj,Nader Yatim,Laura Barnabei,Aurélien Corneau,Jeremy Boussier,Hélène Péré,Bruno Charbit,Vincent Bondet,Camille Chenevier-Gobeaux,Paul Breillat,Nicolas Carlier,Remy Gauzit,Caroline Morbieu,Frédéric Pène,Nathalie Marin,Nicolas Roche,Tali-Anne Szwebel,Nikaïa Smith,Sarah H. Merkling,Jean-Marc Treluyer,David Veyer,Luc Mouthon,Catherine Blanc,Pierre-Louis Tharaux,Flore Rozenberg,Alain Fischer,Darragh Duffy,Frédéric Rieux-Laucat,Solen Kernéis,Benjamin Terrier +29 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that type-I IFN deficiency in the blood is a hallmark of severe Covid-19 and could identify and define a high-risk population and raise concern for utilization of drugs that interfere with the IFN pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI
Beyond RNAi: antiviral defense strategies in Drosophila and mosquito
TL;DR: An overview of the current knowledge and recent developments in antiviral immunity in Dipteran insects, with a focus on non-RNAi mediated inducible responses is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dicer-2-Dependent Generation of Viral DNA from Defective Genomes of RNA Viruses Modulates Antiviral Immunity in Insects.
Enzo Z. Poirier,Enzo Z. Poirier,Bertsy Goic,Lorena Tomé-Poderti,Lionel Frangeul,Jeremy Boussier,Valérie Gausson,Hervé Blanc,Thomas Vallet,Hyelee Loyd,Laura I. Levi,Sophie Lanciano,Chloé Baron,Sarah H. Merkling,Louis Lambrechts,Marie Mirouze,Susan Carpenter,Marco Vignuzzi,Maria-Carla Saleh +18 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that, analogous to mammalian RIG-I-like receptors, Dicer-2 functions like a pattern recognition receptor for DVGs to modulate antiviral immunity in insects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distinct systemic and mucosal immune responses during acute SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Nikaïa Smith,Pedro Gonçalves,Bruno Charbit,Ludivine Grzelak,Ludivine Grzelak,Maxime Beretta,Cyril Planchais,Timothée Bruel,Vincent Rouilly,Vincent Bondet,Jérôme Hadjadj,Nader Yatim,Nader Yatim,Hélène Péré,Sarah H. Merkling,Amine Ghozlane,Solen Kernéis,Solen Kernéis,Frédéric Rieux-Laucat,Benjamin Terrier,Olivier Schwartz,Hugo Mouquet,Darragh Duffy,James P. Di Santo +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, an integrated analysis of SARS-CoV-2 spike-specific antibodies, cytokines, viral load and bacterial communities in paired nasopharyngeal swabs and plasma samples from a cohort of clinically distinct patients with COVID-19 during acute infection was performed.
