Proof of Principle experiments that demonstrate utility of cocktail hohlraums for indirect drive ignition

TL;DR: In this paper, a summary of experiments, numerical simulations, and analytic modeling that demonstrate improved radiation confinement when changing from a hohlraum made from gold to one made from a mixture of high Z materials (cocktail) is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Suprathermal electrons generated by the two-plasmon-decay instability in gas-filled Hohlraums

TL;DR: In this paper, a burst of suprathermal electrons is observed from the exploding laser-entrance-hole window of gas-filled Hohlraums driven with 13.5 kJ of 351 nm laser light.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inelastic X-Ray Scattering from Shocked Liquid Deuterium

TL;DR: These first x-ray Thomson scattering measurements of the microscopic properties of shocked deuterium show an inferred spatially averaged electron temperature, an electron density, and an ionization of 0.8 (-0.25, +0.15).
