John Kline,Siegfried Glenzer,R. E. Olson,L. J. Suter,Klaus Widmann,Debra Callahan,S. N. Dixit,Cliff Thomas,Denise Hinkel,E. A. Williams,Alastair Moore,John R. Celeste,E. L. Dewald,W. W. Hsing,A. L. Warrick,J. Atherton,S. Azevedo,R G Beeler,Robert Berger,A. Conder,Laurent Divol,C. A. Haynam,Daniel H. Kalantar,Robert L. Kauffman,George A. Kyrala,J. D. Kilkenny,J. Liebman,S. Le Pape,D. Larson,Nathan Meezan,Pierre Michel,J. D. Moody,M. D. Rosen,Marilyn Schneider,B. M. Van Wonterghem,R. J. Wallace,B. K. F. Young,Otto Landen,B. J. MacGowan +38 more
TL;DR: The first soft x-rays radiation flux measurements from hohlraums using both a 96 and a 192 beam configuration at the National Ignition Facility have shown high x-ray conversion efficiencies of ∼85%-90%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proof of Principle experiments that demonstrate utility of cocktail hohlraums for indirect drive ignition
O. S. Jones,Jochen Schein,M. D. Rosen,L. J. Suter,R. J. Wallace,E. L. Dewald,Siegfried Glenzer,K. M. Campbell,J. Gunther,B. A. Hammel,Otto Landen,C. Sorce,R. E. Olson,Gregory Rochau,H. Wilkens,J. L. Kaae,J. D. Kilkenny,A. Nikroo,Susan Regan +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a summary of experiments, numerical simulations, and analytic modeling that demonstrate improved radiation confinement when changing from a hohlraum made from gold to one made from a mixture of high Z materials (cocktail) is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Suprathermal electrons generated by the two-plasmon-decay instability in gas-filled Hohlraums
Susan Regan,Nathan Meezan,L. J. Suter,David Strozzi,William L. Kruer,D. Meeker,Siegfried Glenzer,W. Seka,Christian Stoeckl,V. Yu. Glebov,T. C. Sangster,David D. Meyerhofer,R. L. McCrory,E. A. Williams,O. S. Jones,Debra Callahan,M. D. Rosen,Otto Landen,C. Sorce,B. J. MacGowan +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a burst of suprathermal electrons is observed from the exploding laser-entrance-hole window of gas-filled Hohlraums driven with 13.5 kJ of 351 nm laser light.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct measurement of energetic electrons coupling to an imploding low-adiabat inertial confinement fusion capsule.
Tilo Döppner,Cliff Thomas,Laurent Divol,E. L. Dewald,Peter M. Celliers,D. K. Bradley,Debra Callahan,S. N. Dixit,J. A. Harte,S. M. Glenn,S. W. Haan,N. Izumi,George A. Kyrala,G. LaCaille,J. K. Van Wonterghem,L. J. Atherton,Edward I. Moses,Siegfried Glenzer,Otto Landen +32 more
TL;DR: This work imaged hard x-ray bremsstrahlung emission from energetic electrons slowing in a plastic ablator shell during indirectly driven implosions at the National Ignition Facility and measures 570 J in electrons with E>100 keV impinging on the fusion capsule under ignition drive conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inelastic X-Ray Scattering from Shocked Liquid Deuterium
Sean Regan,Katerina Falk,Gianluca Gregori,P. B. Radha,Suxing Hu,T. R. Boehly,B.J.B. Crowley,Siegfried Glenzer,Otto Landen,Dirk O. Gericke,Tilo Döppner,D. D. Meyerhofer,C. D. Murphy,T. C. Sangster,Jan Vorberger +14 more
TL;DR: These first x-ray Thomson scattering measurements of the microscopic properties of shocked deuterium show an inferred spatially averaged electron temperature, an electron density, and an ionization of 0.8 (-0.25, +0.15).
