Transient Laser-Induced Breakdown of Dielectrics in Ultrarelativistic Laser-Solid Interactions
Constantin Bernert,S. Assenbaum,Stefan Bock,Florian-Emanuel Brack,Thomas E. Cowan,Chandra Curry,Marco Garten,Lennart Gaus,Maxence Gauthier,René Gebhardt,Sebastian Göde,Siegfried Glenzer,U. Helbig,T. Kluge,Stephan Kraft,Florian Kroll,Lieselotte Obst-Huebl,T. Püschel,Martin Rehwald,Hans-Peter Schlenvoigt,C. Schoenwaelder,Ulrich Schramm,F. Treffert,M. Vescovi,Tim Ziegler,K. O. Zell +25 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a time-resolved observation of transient laser-induced breakdown (LIB) during the leading edge of high-intensity petawatt-class laser pulses with peak intensities of up to 5.7×1021W/cm2 in interaction with dielectric cryogenic hydrogen jet targets was reported.
Direct Measurements of an increased threshold for stimulated Brillouin scattering with polarization smoothing in ignition hohlraum plasmas
Dustin Froula,Laurent Divol,Richard Berger,R. A. London,N. Meezan,Paul Neumayer,James Ross,S Stagnito,L. J. Suter,Siegfried Glenzer,David Strozzi +10 more
TL;DR: An analytical model relevant to inertial confinement fusion plasma conditions shows that the measured reduction in backscatter with polarization smoothing results from the random spatial variation in polarization of the laser beam, not from the reduction in beam contrast.
Experiments on hot and dense laser-produced plasmas
Christina Back,N. C. Woolsey,A. Asfaw,Siegfried Glenzer,Bruce Hammel,Christopher J. Keane,R. W. Lee,D. Liedahl,J. C. Moreno,J. K. Nash,Albert L. Osterheld,Annette Calisti,Roland Stamm,Bernard Talin,L. Godbert,C. Mossé,Sandrine Ferri,L. Klein +17 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider the Ar He-like 1s{sup 2} (sup 1}S{sub 0}) - 1s3p(sup 1]P{sub 1} (sub 0) transition where ion dynamic effects may affect the profile.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Soft x-ray Thomson scattering in warm dense hydrogen at FLASH
R. R. Fäustlin,Sven Toleikis,Th. Bornath,Tilo Döppner,S. Düsterer,E. Förster,Carsten Fortmann,Siegfried Glenzer,Sebastian Göde,Gianluca Gregori,R. Irsig,Tim Laarmann,Hyesog Lee,Bowei Li,Karl-Heinz Meiwes-Broer,J. Mithen,Andreas Przystawik,Harald Redlin,Ronald Redmer,Heidi Reinholz,Gerd Röpke,Franz Tavella,R. Thiele,Josef Tiggesbäumker,Ingo Uschmann,Ulf Zastrau,Th. Tschentscher +26 more
TL;DR: In this article, collective Thomson scattering with soft x-ray free electron laser radiation was proposed as a method to track the evolution of warm dense matter plasmas with ~200 fs time resolution.
Journal ArticleDOI

B Loughran,M. J. V. Streeter,Hamad Ahmed,S. Astbury,Mario Balcazar,Marco Borghesi,N. Bourgeois,Chandra Curry,S. J. D. Dann,Stephen DiIorio,Nicholas P. Dover,Thomas Dzelzainis,O. C. Ettlinger,Maxence Gauthier,Lorenzo Giuffrida,G. D. Glenn,Siegfried Glenzer,J. F. Green,Ross Gray,G. Hicks,Cormac Hyland,Valeria Istokskaia,M. King,Daniele Margarone,O. McCusker,Paul McKenna,Zulfikar Najmudin,Claudia Parisuaña,Philip J. Parsons,C. Spindloe,Dan Symes,A. G. R. Thomas,F. Treffert,Neng Xu,C. Palmer +34 more
TL;DR: In this paper , an automated, HRR-compatible system produced high-fidelity parameter scans, revealing the influence of laser intensity on target pre-heating and proton generation, and a closed-loop Bayesian optimization of maximum proton energy, through control of the laser wavefront and target position, produced proton beams with equivalent maximum energy to manually optimized laser pulses.
