Journal ArticleDOI
Hot electron measurements in ignition relevant Hohlraums on the National Ignition Facility.
Eduard Dewald,Cliff Thomas,S. Hunter,Laurent Divol,N. Meezan,Siegfried Glenzer,L. J. Suter,E. J. Bond,John Kline,John R. Celeste,D. K. Bradley,P. M. Bell,Robert L. Kauffman,J. D. Kilkenny,Otto Landen +14 more
TL;DR: First hot electron measurements in near ignition scaled Hohlraums heated by 96-192 NIF laser beams are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Ion-Wave Damping on Stimulated Raman Scattering in High-Z Laser-Produced Plasmas.
R. K. Kirkwood,B. J. MacGowan,D. S. Montgomery,Bedros Afeyan,William L. Kruer,John Moody,Kent Estabrook,Christina Back,Siegfried Glenzer,M. A. Blain,E. A. Williams,Richard Berger,Barbara F. Lasinski +12 more
TL;DR: The dependence of the magnitude of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) on ion-wave damping has been demonstrated in a high-{ital Z} plasma and the measurements are consistent with models in which the amplitude of the SRS-driven Langmuir waves are limited by a secondary decay into ion-acoustic waves.
Journal ArticleDOI
Frontiers of the physics of dense plasmas and planetary interiors: Experiments, theory, and applications
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of recent developments of dynamic x-ray characterization experiments of dense matter is presented, with particular emphasis on conditions relevant to interiors of terrestrial and gas giant planets.
Quenching of the nonlocal electron heat transport by large external magnetic fields in a laser produced plasma measured with imaging Thomson scattering
Dustin Froula,P. Davis,B. B. Pollock,Laurent Divol,James Ross,J. Edwards,Richard Town,Dwight Price,Siegfried Glenzer,A. A. Offenberger,George Tynan,A.N. James +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the quenching of nonlocal heat transport in a laser-generated plasma by high external magnetic fields was measured using imaging Thomson scattering, and the results were simulated with the 2D hydrodynamic code LASNEX with a recently included magnetic field model that self-consistently evolves the fields in the plasma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measurement of carbon ionization balance in high-temperature plasma mixtures by temporally resolved X-ray scattering
Gianluca Gregori,Siegfried Glenzer,Hyun-Kyung Chung,Dustin Froula,Richard W. Lee,Nathan Meezan,John Moody,Christoph Niemann,Otto Landen,Bastian Holst,Ronald Redmer,Susan Regan,Hiroshi Sawada +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured carbon ionization balance in a multi-component plasma in the high-temperature, up to fully ionized, regime by spectrally resolved X-ray scattering.
