Dynamics of exploding plasmas in a large magnetized plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, the dynamics of an exploding laser-produced plasma in a large ambient magneto-plasma was investigated with magnetic flux probes and Langmuir probes, and it was shown that the majority of the ambient ions are energized by the magnetic piston and swept outside the bubble volume.
Journal ArticleDOI

Observation of Two Ion-Acoustic Waves in a Two-Species Laser-Produced Plasma with Thomson Scattering

TL;DR: The first observations of two separate ion acoustic waves in a two ion species plasma with Thomson scattering are reported, showing the phase velocities of the ion-acoustic waves to be a sensitive function of the relative concentrations of the two ions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Capsule performance optimization in the National Ignition Campaign

TL;DR: Miller et al. as mentioned in this paper proposed a capsule performance optimization campaign at the National Ignition Facility to increase the probability of ignition by laser-driven hohlraums, and the required tuning techniques using a variety of ignition capsule surrogates have been demonstrated at the OMEGA facility under scaled Hohlraum and capsule conditions relevant to the ignition design.
