Journal ArticleDOI
Calibration of initial measurements from the full aperture backscatter system on the National Ignition Facility
R. K. Kirkwood,T. McCarville,Dustin Froula,B. K. F. Young,D. Bower,Noel R. Sewall,C. Niemann,M. Schneider,J. D. Moody,Gianluca Gregori,F. R. Holdener,M. Chrisp,B. J. MacGowan,Siegfried Glenzer,D. S. Montgomery +14 more
TL;DR: The full aperture backscatter system was designed to provide measurements at the highest expected fluences with: (1) spectral and temporal resolution, (2) beam aperture averaging, and (3) near-field imaging.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolution of elastic x-ray scattering in laser-shocked warm dense lithium.
Nathan Kugland,Nathan Kugland,Gianluca Gregori,S. Bandyopadhyay,Ceri Brenner,Ceri Brenner,C. R. D. Brown,Carmen Constantin,Siegfried Glenzer,Fida Khattak,Andrea Kritcher,Andrea Kritcher,Christoph Niemann,Christoph Niemann,A. Otten,John Pasley,John Pasley,Alexander Pelka,Markus Roth,Christopher Spindloe,David Riley +20 more
TL;DR: The main finding is that the near-elastic scattering amplitudes are quite sensitive to the mean ionization state Z[over ] and by extension to the choice of ionization model in the radiation-hydrodynamics simulations used to predict plasma properties within the shocked Li.
Journal ArticleDOI
A sensitive EUV Schwarzschild microscope for plasma studies with sub-micrometer resolution.
Ulf Zastrau,Christian Rödel,Christian Rödel,Christian Rödel,Motoaki Nakatsutsumi,Torsten Feigl,Karen Appel,Bo Chen,Tilo Döppner,Thomas Fennel,T. Fiedler,Luke Fletcher,Eckhart Förster,Eckhart Förster,Eliseo Gamboa,Dirk O. Gericke,Sebastian Göde,C. Grote-Fortmann,Vinzenz Hilbert,L. Kazak,Tim Laarmann,Hae Ja Lee,P. Mabey,F. Martinez,Karl-Heinz Meiwes-Broer,H. Pauer,M. Perske,Andreas Przystawik,S. Roling,S. Skruszewicz,S. Skruszewicz,Mohammed Shihab,Mohammed Shihab,Josef Tiggesbäumker,Sven Toleikis,Martin Wünsche,Martin Wünsche,Helmut Zacharias,Siegfried Glenzer,Gianluca Gregori +39 more
TL;DR: An extreme ultraviolet (EUV) microscope using a Schwarzschild objective which is optimized for single-shot sub-micrometer imaging of laser-plasma targets is presented and is expected to enable novel experimental capabilities for warm dense matter studies of micrometer-sized samples in laser- Plasma experiments.
Thomson scattering from near-solid density plasmas using soft x-ray free electron lasers
A. Höll,Th. Bornath,L. Cao,Tilo Döppner,Stefan Düsterer,Eckhart Förster,Carsten Fortmann,Siegfried Glenzer,Gianluca Gregori,Gianluca Gregori,Tim Laarmann,Karl-Heinz Meiwes-Broer,Andreas Przystawik,Paul Radcliffe,Ronald Redmer,H. Reinholz,Gerd Röpke,R. Thiele,J. Tiggesbäumker,S Toleikis,N. X. Truong,Th. Tschentscher,Ingo Uschmann,Ulf Zastrau +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, a collective Thomson scattering experiment at the VUV free electron laser facility at DESY (FLASH) is proposed to diagnose warm dense matter at near-solid density.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multicentimeter long high density magnetic plasmas for optical guiding.
B. B. Pollock,Dustin Froula,George Tynan,Laurent Divol,Dwight Price,R. Costa,F. Yepiz,S. Fulkerson,F. Mangini,Siegfried Glenzer +9 more
TL;DR: A platform for producing long plasma channels suitable for guiding lasers over several centimeters by applying magnetic fields to limit the radial heat flux from a preforming laser beam is presented and initial results show a 5 cm long plasma column.
