Journal ArticleDOI
Observation of the nonlinear saturation of langmuir waves driven by ponderomotive force in a large scale plasma
R. K. Kirkwood,D. S. Montgomery,B. B. Afeyan,J. D. Moody,B. J. MacGowan,Chan Joshi,Ken Wharton,Siegfried Glenzer,E. A. Williams,P. E. Young,William L. Kruer,Kent Estabrook,Richard Berger +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors observed the nonlinear saturation of Langmuir waves produced by a probe laser beam interacting with a high intensity pumping laser beam and showed that the wave is nonlinearly saturated consistent with saturation by secondary-ion-wave instabilities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thomson scattering on inhomogeneous targets
R. Thiele,P. Sperling,Min Chen,Th. Bornath,R. R. Fäustlin,Carsten Fortmann,Siegfried Glenzer,Wolf-Dietrich Kraeft,Alexander Pukhov,Sven Toleikis,Th. Tschentscher,Ronald Redmer +11 more
TL;DR: The method described here can be applied to various pump-probe scenarios by combining optical lasers and soft x ray, as well as x-ray sources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Absolute Hugoniot measurements from a spherically convergent shock using x-ray radiography.
Damian Swift,Andrea Kritcher,James Hawreliak,Amy Lazicki,Andrew MacPhee,Benjamin Bachmann,Tilo Döppner,Joseph Nilsen,Gilbert Collins,Siegfried Glenzer,S. D. Rothman,Dominik Kraus,Roger Falcone +12 more
TL;DR: This work has used x-ray radiography of spherically converging shocks to determine states along the shock Hugoniot, and presented the experimental method using measurements of polystyrene as an example.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isochoric heating of reduced mass targets by ultra-intense laser produced relativistic electrons
Paul Neumayer,Hyesog Lee,D. Offerman,E. Shipton,Andreas Kemp,Andrea Kritcher,Andrea Kritcher,Tilo Döppner,Christina Back,Siegfried Glenzer +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present measurements of the chlorine K-alpha emission from reduced mass targets, irradiated with ultra-high intensity laser pulses, indicating isochoric heating of the target up to 18 eV.
Journal ArticleDOI
Electron-ion temperature equilibration in warm dense tantalum
N. J. Hartley,Patrick Belancourt,D. A. Chapman,Tilo Döppner,R. P. Drake,Dirk O. Gericke,Siegfried Glenzer,D. Khaghani,Sebastien LePape,Tammy Ma,Paul Neumayer,Arthur Pak,L. Peters,S. Richardson,Jan Vorberger,Thomas G. White,Gianluca Gregori +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the electron-ion temperature equilibration in proton-heated tantalum, under warm dense matter conditions, was investigated and the results agree with theoretical predictions for metals calculated using input data from ab initio simulations.
