Gudbjartsson,Thorunn Rafnar,Ingemar Turesson,Urban Gullberg,Kari Stefansson,Markus Hansson,Unnur Thorsteinsdottir,Björn Nilsson,Björn Nilsson +34 more
TL;DR: A genome-wide association study in the Nordic region identifying a novel MM risk locus at ELL2 that encodes a stoichiometrically limiting component of the super-elongation complex that drives secretory-specific immunoglobulin mRNA production and transcriptional regulation in plasma cells is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Outcome and survival of myeloma patients diagnosed 2008-2015. Real-world data on 4904 patients from the Swedish Myeloma Registry.
Cecilie Blimark,Ingemar Turesson,Anna Genell,Lucia Ahlberg,Bo Björkstrand,Kristina Carlson,Karin Forsberg,Gunnar Juliusson,Olle Linder,Ulf-Henrik Mellqvist,Hareth Nahi,Sigurður Yngvi Kristinsson,Sigurður Yngvi Kristinsson +12 more
TL;DR: The Swedish Myeloma Registry is a prospective population-based registry documenting characteristics, treatment and outcome in newly diagnosed myeloma, including asymptomatic and localized forms, with the purpose of improving disease management and outcome, and responses and survival improved during the study period.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fractures and survival in multiple myeloma: results from a population-based study
Sigrun Thorsteinsdottir,Gauti Kjartan Gislason,Thor Aspelund,Ingigerdur Solveig Sverrisdottir,C. Ola Landgren,Ingemar Turesson,Magnus Björkholm,Sigurður Yngvi Kristinsson +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that multiple myeloma patients with fractures are at a significantly increased risk of dying compared to those without fractures, which stresses the importance of preventing bone disease in MM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary intake is associated with risk of multiple myeloma and its precursor disease.
Marianna Thordardottir,Ebba K. Lindqvist,Sigrun H. Lund,Rene Costello,Debra Burton,Laufey Steingrimsdottir,Neha Korde,Sham Mailankody,Gudny Eiriksdottir,Lenore J. Launer,Vilmundur Gudnason,Tamara B. Harris,Ola Landgren,Johanna E. Torfadottir,Sigurður Yngvi Kristinsson,Sigurður Yngvi Kristinsson +15 more
TL;DR: It is found that intake of fruit at least three times per week during adolescence was associated with lower risk of MGUS when compared to lower fruit consumption, and fruit intake after MGUS onset may reduce risk of progressing to MM.
Journal ArticleDOI
