Coupling of Indo-Pacific climate variability over the last millennium
Nerilie J. Abram,Nicky M. Wright,Bethany Ellis,Bronwyn C. Dixon,Bronwyn C. Dixon,J. B. Wurtzel,J. B. Wurtzel,Matthew H. England,Caroline C. Ummenhofer,Caroline C. Ummenhofer,B. Philibosian,Sri Yudawati Cahyarini,Tsai Luen Yu,Chuan-Chou Shen,Hai Cheng,Hai Cheng,R. Lawrence Edwards,David Heslop +17 more
TL;DR: Coral records indicate that the variability of the Indian Ocean Dipole over the last millennium is strongly coupled to variability in the El Niño/Southern Oscillation and that recent extremes are unusual but not unprecedented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reconstructing seawater δ18O from paired coral δ18O and Sr/Ca ratios: Methods, error analysis and problems, with examples from Tahiti (French Polynesia) and Timor (Indonesia)
Sri Yudawati Cahyarini,Sri Yudawati Cahyarini,Miriam Pfeiffer,Oliver Elison Timm,Wolf-Christian Dullo,Dieter Garbe Schönberg +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare several statistical routines that may be used to calculate delta O-18 and SSS from paired coral Sr/Ca and delta O -18 measurements, showing that covariance leads to a bias in the coefficients of the univariate regression equations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence of Sundaland’s subsidence requires revisiting its biogeography

Pronounced interannual variability in tropical South Pacific temperatures during Heinrich Stadial 1
Thomas Felis,Ute Merkel,Ryuji Asami,Pierre Deschamps,Ed C Hathorne,Ed C Hathorne,Martin Kölling,Edouard Bard,Guy Cabioch,Nicolas Durand,Matthias Prange,Michael Schulz,Sri Yudawati Cahyarini,Miriam Pfeiffer +13 more
TL;DR: This work uses Sr/Ca in a fossil Tahiti coral to reconstruct tropical South Pacific sea surface temperature around 15,000 years ago at monthly resolution and indicates that the El Niño-Southern Oscillation was active during Heinrich Stadial 1, consistent with climate model simulations of enhanced ENSO variability at that time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improving SST reconstructions from coral Sr/Ca records: multiple corals from Tahiti (French Polynesia)
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reconstruct the SST from coral Sr/Ca ratios measured at three coral cores taken from the lagoon of Tahiti (French Polynesia) and evaluate several records as proxies for regional SST variations.
