Journal ArticleDOI
Determination of the sources of nitrate and the microbiological sources of pollution in the Sava River Basin
Janja Vrzel,Branka Vuković-Gačić,Stoimir Kolarević,Zoran Gačić,Margareta Kračun-Kolarević,Jovana Kostić,Mustafa Aborgiba,Andreas H. Farnleitner,Georg H. Reischer,Rita Linke,Momir Paunović,Nives Ogrinc +11 more
TL;DR: The ranges of isotope values suggest that NO3- in the SRB derives from soil nitrification, sewage, and/or manure, which were further supported by MST analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiparametric monitoring of microbial faecal pollution reveals the dominance of human contamination along the whole Danube River.
Alexander K. T. Kirschner,Georg H. Reischer,Stefan Jakwerth,Domenico Savio,Simone K. Ixenmaier,Erika Tóth,Regina Sommer,Robert L. Mach,Rita Linke,Alexander Eiler,Stoimir Kolarević,Andreas H. Farnleitner,Andreas H. Farnleitner +12 more
TL;DR: This study demonstrates that the application of host-associated genetic microbial source tracking markers in concert with the traditional concept of microbial faecal pollution monitoring based on SFIB significantly enhances the knowledge of the extent and origin of microbial Faecalpollution patterns in large rivers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Heavy Metal Accumulation and the Genotoxicity in Barbel (Barbus barbus) as Indicators of the Danube River Pollution
Karolina Sunjog,Zoran Gačić,Stoimir Kolarević,Željka Višnjić-Jeftić,Ivan Jarić,Jelena Knežević-Vukčević,Branka Vuković-Gačić,Mirjana Lenhardt +7 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that the younger barbel specimens might be more suitable for the monitoring of environmental pollution, as concentrations of Zn and Fe were above maximum acceptable concentrations (MACs) in a number of gonad, gill, and liver samples.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of the genotoxic potential along the Danube River by application of the comet assay on haemocytes of freshwater mussels: The Joint Danube Survey 3
Stoimir Kolarević,Margareta Kračun-Kolarević,Jovana Kostić,Jaroslav Slobodnik,Igor Liska,Zoran Gačić,Momir Paunović,Jelena Knežević-Vukčević,Branka Vuković-Gačić +8 more
TL;DR: The level of genotoxic pollution along the Danube River is assessed by measuring the level of DNA damage in the haemocytes of freshwater mussels of Unio sp.
Journal ArticleDOI
Making Waves: Collaboration in the time of SARS-CoV-2 - rapid development of an international co-operation and wastewater surveillance database to support public health decision-making.

TL;DR: The NORMAN SCORE “SARS-CoV-2 in sewage” database provides a platform for rapid, open access data sharing, validated by the uploading of 276 data sets from nine countries to-date and is a resource for the development of recommendations on minimum data requirements for wastewater pathogen surveillance.
