Short‐lived alkyl iodides and bromides at Mace Head, Ireland: Links to biogenic sources and halogen oxide production
Lucy J. Carpenter,William T. Sturges,Stuart A. Penkett,Peter S. Liss,B. Alicke,K. Hebestreit,Ulrich Platt +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the first field observations to provide evidence for a link between the tidal cycle, polyhalomethanes in air, and potential marine production were made at Mace Head during a 3-week period in May 1997.
Journal ArticleDOI
The importance of atmospheric ozone and hydrogen peroxide in oxidising sulphur dioxide in cloud and rainwater
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the experimental data to calculate the rate of sulphate formation in water droplets under atmospheric conditions for each of the three oxidants, i.e., ozone, ozone and hydrogen peroxide.
Journal ArticleDOI
Civil Aircraft for the regular investigation of the atmosphere based on an instrumented container: The new CARIBIC system
Carl A. M. Brenninkmeijer,Paul J. Crutzen,F. Boumard,T. Dauer,Barbara Dix,Ralf Ebinghaus,D. Filippi,Hubertus Fischer,Harald Franke,Udo Frieß,Jost Heintzenberg,Frank Helleis,M. Hermann,H. H. Kock,C. Waibel,A. Wandel,K. Waschitschek,Alfred Wiedensohler,Irène Xueref-Remy,Andreas Zahn,U. Zech,Helmut Ziereis +49 more
TL;DR: CARIBIC as mentioned in this paper is a flying observatory for the measurement of atmospheric gases and trace compounds onboard a Boeing 767-300 ER of LTU International Airways during long-distance flights from 1997 to 2002.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seasonal emissions of isoprene and other reactive hydrocarbon gases from the ocean
TL;DR: In this paper, the seasonally averaged flux of isoprene to the atmosphere was estimated to be 1.7 × 107 molecules cm−2 s−1, which may be significant for atmospheric chemistry in locations remote from land as it is the only known source of atmospheric isoperesidual in these regions.
Journal ArticleDOI
The spring maximum in photo-oxidants in the Northern Hemisphere troposphere
Stuart A. Penkett,K. A. Brice +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a large increase in the concentration in background air in springtime was found to contribute to the spring maximum in the tropospheric ozone concentration in the Northern Hemisphere, which has traditionally been attributed to increased transfer of air from the stratosphere.
