Journal ArticleDOI
High-resolution ab initio three-dimensional x-ray diffraction microscopy
Henry N. Chapman,Anton Barty,Stefano Marchesini,Aleksandr Noy,Stefan P. Hau-Riege,C. Cui,Malcolm R. Howells,R. Rosen,H. He,John C. H. Spence,Uwe Weierstall,T. Beetz,Chris Jacobsen,David A. Shapiro +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors demonstrate x-ray diffraction imaging with high resolution in all three dimensions, as determined by a quantitative analysis of the reconstructed volume images, using no a priori knowledge about the shape or composition of the object, which has never before been demonstrated on a nonperiodic object.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biological imaging by soft x-ray diffraction microscopy
David A. Shapiro,Pierre Thibault,T. Beetz,T. Beetz,Veit Elser,Malcolm R. Howells,Chris Jacobsen,Chris Jacobsen,Janos Kirz,Janos Kirz,E. Lima,H. Miao,Aaron M. Neiman,David Sayre +13 more
TL;DR: This work represents a previously uncharacterized application of x-ray diffraction microscopy to a specimen of this complexity and provides confidence in the feasibility of the ultimate goal of imaging biological specimens at 10-nm resolution in three dimensions.
Journal ArticleDOI
An assessment of the resolution limitation due to radiation-damage in X-ray diffraction microscopy
Malcolm R. Howells,T. Beetz,Henry N. Chapman,C. Cui,James M. Holton,James M. Holton,Chris Jacobsen,Chris Jacobsen,Janos Kirz,Janos Kirz,E. Lima,Stefano Marchesini,H. Miao,David Sayre,David A. Shapiro,John C. H. Spence,John C. H. Spence,D. Starodub +17 more
TL;DR: The conclusion of this study is that, based on the natural contrast between protein and water and "Rose-criterion" image quality, one should be able to image a frozen-hydrated biological sample using XDM at a resolution of about 10 nm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optical spectroscopy of individual single-walled carbon nanotubes of defined chiral structure.
Matthew Y. Sfeir,Matthew Y. Sfeir,T. Beetz,Feng Wang,Limin Huang,X. M. Henry Huang,Mingyuan Huang,James Hone,Stephen O'Brien,James A. Misewich,Tony F. Heinz,Lijun Wu,Yimei Zhu,Louis E. Brus +13 more
TL;DR: This work directly verified the systematic changes in transition energies of semiconducting nanotubes as a function of their chirality and observed predicted energy splittings of optical transitions in metallic nanot tubes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transferring self-assembled, nanoscale cables into electrical devices.
Shengxiong Xiao,Jinyao Tang,T. Beetz,Xuefeng Guo,Noah Tremblay,Theo Siegrist,Yimei Zhu,Michael L. Steigerwald,Colin Nuckolls +8 more
TL;DR: This study details a new derivative of the contorted HBCs that self-organizes into one-dimensional, single-crystalline fibers that utilizes elastomer stamps to manipulate and position isolated fibers in organic field effect transistors.
