Journal ArticleDOI
Interhemispheric Correlation of Late Pleistocene Glacial Events
Thomas V. Lowell,Calvin J. Heusser,Bjørn G. Andersen,Patricio I. Moreno,Arturo Hauser,Linda E. Heusser,Christian Schlüchter,David R. Marchant,George H. Denton +8 more
TL;DR: The last termination began suddenly and simultaneously in both polar hemispheres before the resumption of the modern mode of deep-water production in the Nordic Seas and interhemispheric coupling implies a global atmospheric signal rather than regional climatic changes caused by North Atlantic thermohaline switches or Laurentide ice surges.
Journal ArticleDOI
Near-Synchronous Interhemispheric Termination of the Last Glacial Maximum in Mid-Latitudes
Joerg M. Schaefer,George H. Denton,David J.A. Barrell,Susan Ivy-Ochs,Peter W. Kubik,Bjørn G. Andersen,Fred M. Phillips,Thomas V. Lowell,Christian Schlüchter +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that a global trend of rising summer temperatures at the end of the Last Glacial Maximum was obscured in North Atlantic regions by hypercold winters associated with unusually extensive winter sea ice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Abrupt vegetation and climate changes during the last glacial maximum and last termination in the chilean lake district: a case study from canal de la puntilla (41¡s)
TL;DR: In this article, multiple overlapping and replicate pollen stratigraphies from Canal de la Puntilla (40°57'09S, 72°54'18W, 120 m elevation) reveal that a Nothofagus dombeyi-type parkland occupied the Valle Central of the Chilean Lake District during the portion of the Last Glacial Maximum between 20,200 and about 14,600 14 C yr BP.
Journal ArticleDOI
Geomorphology, Stratigraphy, and Radiocarbon Chronology of LlanquihueDrift in the Area of the Southern Lake District, Seno Reloncaví, and Isla Grande de Chiloé, Chile
George H. Denton,Thomas V. Lowell,Cal Heusser,Christian Schlüchter,Bjørn G. Andersen,Linda E. Heusser,Patricio I. Moreno,David R. Marchant +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, Andean piedmont glaciers did not advance into the outer Llanquihue moraine belts during the portion of the middle Llanqihue time between 29,363-29,385 14 C yr BP and more than 39,660 14C yr BP.
Journal ArticleDOI

Teller,Woodrow B Thompson,L. Harvey Thorleifson,D J Utting,Jean J. Veillette,Brent Ward,Thomas K. Weddle,Herbert E. Wright +75 more
TL;DR: The most up-to-date and authoritative margin chronology for the entire ice sheet complex is featured in two publications (Geological Survey of Canada Open File 1574 [Dyke et al., 2003] and as mentioned in this paper ).
