Antithrombotic therapy in the elderly: expert position paper of the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Thrombosis.
Felicita Andreotti,Bianca Rocca,Steen Husted,Ramzi A. Ajjan,Jurriën M. ten Berg,Marco Cattaneo,Jean-Philippe Collet,Raffaele De Caterina,Keith A.A. Fox,Sigrun Halvorsen,Kurt Huber,Elaine M. Hylek,Gregory Y.H. Lip,Gilles Montalescot,João Morais,Carlo Patrono,Freek W.A. Verheugt,Lars Wallentin,Thomas W. Weiss,Robert F. Storey +19 more
TL;DR: Given the challenges of antithrombotic treatment in the elderly, the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Thrombosis gathered a task group to address the topic.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tissue-type plasminogen activator requires a co-receptor to enhance NMDA receptor function
Andre L. Samson,Simon T. Nevin,David R. Croucher,Be'eri Niego,Philip Bruce Daniel,Thomas W. Weiss,Eliza Moreno,Denis Monard,Daniel A. Lawrence,Robert L. Medcalf +9 more
TL;DR: It is found that plasmin directly proteolyses the NMDAR whilst tPA functions as an indirect modulator of NMDA‐induced events via LDLR engagement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Management of antithrombotic therapy after bleeding in patients with coronary artery disease and/or atrial fibrillation: expert consensus paper of the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Thrombosis
Sigrun Halvorsen,Robert F. Storey,Bianca Rocca,Dirk Sibbing,Jurriën M. ten Berg,Erik Lerkevang Grove,Thomas W. Weiss,Jean-Philippe Collet,Felicita Andreotti,Dietrich C. Gulba,Gregory Y.H. Lip,Steen Husted,Gemma Vilahur,João Morais,Freek W.A. Verheugt,Angel Lanas,Rustam Al-Shahi Salman,Philippe Gabriel Steg,Kurt Huber +18 more
TL;DR: There is an unmet need for guidance on how to manage antithrombotic therapy after bleeding, and the overlap in risk factors for bleeding and ischaemic events means that patients who are more likely to suffer from bleeding complications of antithROMbotic Therapy also tend to be at higher risk of thrombosis events.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Is Induced by the Inflammatory Cytokines Interleukin-6 and Oncostatin M in Human Adipose Tissue In Vitro and in Murine Adipose Tissue In Vivo
Gersina Rega,Christoph Kaun,S. Demyanets,S. Pfaffenberger,Kathrin Rychli,Philipp J. Hohensinner,S.P. Kastl,Walter S. Speidl,Thomas W. Weiss,Johannes M. Breuss,Alexander Furnkranz,Pavel Uhrin,Jan Zaujec,V. Zilberfarb,Manfred Frey,R. Roehle,Gerald Maurer,Kurt Huber,Johann Wojta +18 more
TL;DR: It is speculated that the inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and OSM might support angiogenesis during adipose tissue growth by upregulating VEGF.
Journal ArticleDOI
