Replicative fitness of transmitted HIV-1 drives acute immune activation, proviral load in memory CD4+ T cells, and disease progression
Daniel T. Claiborne,Jessica L. Prince,Eileen P. Scully,Gladys Macharia,Luca Micci,Benton Lawson,Jakub Kopycinski,Jakub Kopycinski,Martin J. Deymier,Thomas H. Vanderford,Krystelle Nganou-Makamdop,Zachary Ende,Kelsie Brooks,Jianming Tang,Tianwei Yu,Shabir Lakhi,William Kilembe,Guido Silvestri,Daniel C. Douek,Paul A. Goepfert,Matthew Price,Matthew Price,Susan Allen,Mirko Paiardini,Marcus Altfeld,Jill Gilmour,Jill Gilmour,Eric Hunter,Eric Hunter +28 more
TL;DR: These findings support an unprecedented role for the replicative fitness of the founder virus, independent of host protective genes and VL, in influencing multiple facets of HIV-1–related immunopathology, and that a greater focus on this parameter could provide novel approaches to clinical interventions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optical protein sensor for detecting cancer markers in saliva
TL;DR: A surface immobilized optical protein sensor utilized to detect Interleukin-8 (IL-8) protein, an oral cancer marker, is utilized and can reach limit of detection (LOD) at 1.1 pM in buffer without using enzymatic amplification, such that the simplified protocol can further facilitate the development of point-of-care devices.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of salivary RNA by cDNA library analysis.
Noh Jin Park,Xiaofeng Zhou,Tianwei Yu,Brigitta M.N. Brinkman,Bernhard Zimmermann,Visswanathan Palanisamy,David T.W. Wong +6 more
TL;DR: This paper presents unequivocal evidence for the presence of RNA in saliva as determined by the use of diverse techniques such as reverse transcriptase quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), in vitro translation, and the construction of a salivary cDNA library.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary sulfur amino acid effects on fasting plasma cysteine/cystine redox potential in humans
Dean P. Jones,Youngja Park,Nana Gletsu-Miller,Yongliang Liang,Tianwei Yu,Carolyn Jonas Accardi,Thomas R. Ziegler +6 more
TL;DR: Results show that free Cys and Cys/CySS redox potential (E(h)CySS) in fasting plasma are affected by dietary SAA intake level in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hybrid feature detection and information accumulation using high-resolution LC-MS metabolomics data.
TL;DR: A computational approach that boosts feature detection sensitivity by using a hybrid procedure of both untargeted and targeted peak detection, and is implemented as part of the R package apLCMS at http://www.emory.edu/apLCMS/ .
