Journal ArticleDOI

Can Animal Models of Disease Reliably Inform Human Studies

TL;DR: H. Bart van der Worp and colleagues discuss the controversies and possibilities of translating the results of animal experiments into human clinical trials and the prospects of doing so in the coming years.

Extending thrombolysis to 4·5–9 h and wake-up stroke using perfusion imaging: a systematic review and meta-analysis of individual patient data

Bruce C.V. Campbell, +267 more
- 13 Jul 2019 -
TL;DR: Patients with ischaemic stroke 4·5-9 h from stroke onset or wake-up stroke with salvageable brain tissue who were treated with alteplase achieved better functional outcomes than did patients given placebo, and this increase in the rate of symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage did not negate the overall net benefit of thrombolysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Different strokes for different folks: the rich diversity of animal models of focal cerebral ischemia.

TL;DR: The aim is to provide an overview of the key controllable determinants of experimental stroke outcome to help ensure the most effective application of animal models to translational research.
