TL;DR: Patients with ischaemic stroke 4·5-9 h from stroke onset or wake-up stroke with salvageable brain tissue who were treated with alteplase achieved better functional outcomes than did patients given placebo, and this increase in the rate of symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage did not negate the overall net benefit of thrombolysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fresh frozen plasma versus prothrombin complex concentrate in patients with intracranial haemorrhage related to vitamin K antagonists (INCH): a randomised trial
Thorsten Steiner,Sven Poli,Martin Griebe,Johannes Hüsing,Jacek Hajda,Anja Freiberger,Martin Bendszus,Julian Bösel,Hanne Christensen,Christian Dohmen,Michael G. Hennerici,Jennifer Kollmer,Henning Stetefeld,Katja E. Wartenberg,Christian Weimar,Werner Hacke,Roland Veltkamp,Roland Veltkamp +17 more
TL;DR: In patients with VKA-related intracranial hemorrhage, four-factor PCC might be superior to FFP with respect to normalising the INR, and faster INR normalisation seemed to be associated with smaller haematoma expansion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stroke-Related Early Tracheostomy Versus Prolonged Orotracheal Intubation in Neurocritical Care Trial (SETPOINT) A Randomized Pilot Trial
Julian Bösel,Petra Schiller,Yvonne Hook,Michaela Andes,Jan-Oliver Neumann,Sven Poli,Hemasse Amiri,Silvia Schönenberger,Zhongying Peng,Andreas Unterberg,Werner Hacke,Thorsten Steiner +11 more
TL;DR: Early tracheostomy in ventilated intensive care stroke patients is feasible, and safe, and presumably reduces sedation need, and whether the suggested benefits in mortality and outcome truly exist has to be determined by a larger multicenter trial.
Journal ArticleDOI
Decompressive surgery in cerebrovenous thrombosis: a multicenter registry and a systematic review of individual patient data
José M. Ferro,Isabelle Crassard,Jonathan M. Coutinho,Patrícia Canhão,Fernando Barinagarrementeria,Brett Cucchiara,Laurent Derex,Christoph Lichy,Jaime Masjuan,Ayrton Roberto Massaro,Gonzalo Matamala,Sven Poli,Mohammad Saadatnia,E. Stolz,Miguel Viana-Baptista,Jan Stam,Marie-Germaine Bousser,Dural Sinus Thrombosis (Iscvt ) Investigators +17 more
TL;DR: In CVT patients with large parenchymal lesions causing herniation, decompressive surgery was lifesaving and often resulted in good functional outcome, even in patients with severe clinical conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apixaban for treatment of embolic stroke of undetermined source (ATTICUS randomized trial): Rationale and study design:
Tobias Geisler,Sven Poli,Christoph Meisner,Juergen Schreieck,Christine S. Zuern,Thomas Nägele,Johannes Brachmann,Werner Jung,Georg Gahn,Elisabeth Schmid,Hansjörg Bäezner,Timea Keller,Gabor C. Petzold,J W Schrickel,Jan Liman,Rolf Wachter,Frauke Schön,Martin Schabet,A. Lindner,Albert C. Ludolph,Hubert Kimmig,Sebastian Jander,Uwe Schlegel,Meinrad Gawaz,Ulf Ziemann +24 more
TL;DR: The ATTICUS randomized trial is designed to determine whether the factor Xa inhibitor apixaban administered within 7 days after embolic stroke of undetermined source, is superior to acetylsalicylic acid for prevention of new ischemic lesions documented by brain magnetic resonance imaging within 12 months after index stroke.
