Journal ArticleDOI
Targeted delivery of immune therapeutics to lymph nodes prolongs cardiac allograft survival
Baharak Bahmani,Mayuko Uehara,Liwei Jiang,Farideh Ordikhani,Naima Banouni,Takaharu Ichimura,Zhabiz Solhjou,Georg J. Furtmüller,Gerald Brandacher,David Alvarez,Ulrich H. von Andrian,Kenji Uchimura,Qiaobing Xu,Ishaan Vohra,Osman A. Yilmam,Yousef Haik,Jamil Azzi,Vivek Kasinath,Jonathan S. Bromberg,Martina M. McGrath,Reza Abdi +20 more
TL;DR: A nanoparticle (NP) is synthesized as a carrier of anti-CD3, and the conjugation strategy to coat the NP surface with MECA79 mAb (MECA79-anti- CD3-NP) to enhance LN accumulation is optimized to redefine the methods of administering immune therapeutics in transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeting antigen-presenting cells by anti–PD-1 nanoparticles augments antitumor immunity
Farideh Ordikhani,Mayuko Uehara,Vivek Kasinath,Li Dai,Siawosh K. Eskandari,Baharak Bahmani,Merve Yonar,Jamil Azzi,Yousef Haik,Peter T. Sage,George F. Murphy,Nasim Annabi,Tobias Schatton,Indira Guleria,Reza Abdi +14 more
TL;DR: It is found that anti-PD-1 NPs undergo internalization by DCs in the spleen, leading to their maturation and the subsequent activation of T cells, which improves the antitumor effect of this agent in the B16-F10 murine melanoma model.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ischemia augments alloimmune injury through IL-6-driven CD4+ alloreactivity.
Mayuko Uehara,Zhabiz Solhjou,Naima Banouni,Vivek Kasinath,Ye Xiaqun,Li Dai,Osman A. Yilmam,Mine Yilmaz,Takaharu Ichimura,Paolo Fiorina,Paulo N. Martins,Shunsuke Ohori,Indira Guleria,Omar H. Maarouf,Stefan G. Tullius,Martina M. McGrath,Reza Abdi +16 more
TL;DR: A novel pathway where IRI activates innate immunity, leading to upregulation of antigen specific alloimmunity, resulting in chronic allograft injury is described, and a clinically relevant treatment strategy to overcome the deleterious effect of IRI is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of lymph node stroma and microenvironment in T cell tolerance
Vikas Saxena,Lushen Li,Christina Paluskievicz,Vivek Kasinath,Asher Bean,Reza Abdi,Christopher M. Jewell,Christopher M. Jewell,Jonathan S. Bromberg +8 more
TL;DR: Increased understanding of LN architecture, how different LN SCs integrate immunological cues and shape immune responses, and approaches to induce T cell tolerance will help further combat autoimmune diseases and graft rejection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anti-IL-6 eluting immunomodulatory biomaterials prolong skin allograft survival
Mayuko Uehara,Xiaofei Li,Amir Sheikhi,Nooshin Zandi,Nooshin Zandi,Nooshin Zandi,Brian Walker,Brian Walker,Bahram Saleh,Naima Banouni,Liwei Jiang,Farideh Ordikhani,Li Dai,Merve Yonar,Ishaan Vohra,Vivek Kasinath,Dennis P. Orgill,Ali Khademhosseini,Nasim Annabi,Reza Abdi +19 more
TL;DR: Using a highly stringent skin transplant model, the GelMA/anti- IL-6 IMB was far superior to systemic anti-IL-6 receptor treatment in prolonging skin allograft survival and its potential utility in treating patients with severe burns.
