Journal ArticleDOI
Plant diversity effects on grassland productivity are robust to both nutrient enrichment and drought
Dylan Craven,Forest Isbell,Peter Manning,John Connolly,Helge Bruelheide,Anne Ebeling,Christiane Roscher,Jasper van Ruijven,Alexandra Weigelt,Brian J. Wilsey,Carl Beierkuhnlein,Enrica De Luca,John N. Griffin,Yann Hautier,Andy Hector,Anke Jentsch,Jürgen Kreyling,Vojtech Lanta,Michel Loreau,Sebastian T. Meyer,Akira Mori,Shahid Naeem,Cecilia Palmborg,H. Wayne Polley,Peter B. Reich,Bernhard Schmid,Alrun Siebenkäs,Eric W. Seabloom,Madhav P. Thakur,David Tilman,Anja Vogel,Nico Eisenhauer +31 more
TL;DR: It is found that diversity and the complementarity of species are important regulators of grassland ecosystem productivity, regardless of changes in other drivers of ecosystem function.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detecting local adaptation in widespread grassland species – the importance of scale and local plant community
Armin Bischoff,Lisèle Crémieux,Marie Šmilauerová,Clare Lawson,Simon R. Mortimer,Jiri Dolezal,Vojtech Lanta,Andrew R. Edwards,Alex J. Brook,Mirka Macel,Jan Lepš,Thomas Steinger,Heinz Müller-Schärer +12 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that local adaptation in real plant communities cannot necessarily be predicted from plants grown in weeded monocultures and that tests on the relationship between fitness and geographical distance have to account for habitat-dependent small-scale differentiation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Climate vs. soil factors in local adaptation of two common plant species
Mirka Macel,Clare Lawson,Simon R. Mortimer,Marie Šmilauerová,Armin Bischoff,Lisèle Crémieux,Jiří Doležal,Andrew R. Edwards,Vojtech Lanta,T. Martijn Bezemer,Wim H. van der Putten,José Mariano Igual,C. Rodriguez-Barrueco,Heinz Müller-Schärer,Thomas Steinger +14 more
TL;DR: The results show that the importance of climate and soil factors as drivers of local adaptation is species-dependent, which could be related to differences in interactions between plant species and soil biota.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biotic homogenization destabilizes ecosystem functioning by decreasing spatial asynchrony.
Shaopeng Wang,Michel Loreau,Claire de Mazancourt,Forest Isbell,Carl Beierkuhnlein,John Connolly,John Connolly,Douglas H. Deutschman,Jiří Doležal,Jiří Doležal,Nico Eisenhauer,Andy Hector,Anke Jentsch,Jürgen Kreyling,Vojtech Lanta,Vojtech Lanta,Jan Lepš,H. Wayne Polley,Peter B. Reich,Peter B. Reich,Jasper van Ruijven,Bernhard Schmid,David Tilman,Brian J. Wilsey,Dylan Craven +24 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of local biodiversity loss on ecosystem stability are well documented, but the consequences of biodiversity changes at larger spatial scales, in particular biotic homogenization, that is, reduced species turnover across space (β diversity), remain poorly known.
