Journal ArticleDOI

Expansion of a single transposable element family is associated with genome-size increase and radiation in the genus Hydra

TL;DR: A broad genomic sampling within the genus Hydra, a freshwater cnidarian at the focal point of diverse research in regeneration, symbiosis, biogeography, and aging, finds that the genome of Hydra is the result of an expansion event involving long interspersed nuclear elements and in particular a single family of the chicken repeat 1 (CR1) class.
Journal ArticleDOI

RepeatCraft: a meta-pipeline for repetitive element de-fragmentation and annotation.

TL;DR: A pipeline (RepeatCraft) is developed that integrates results from several repeat element classification tools based on both sequence similarity and structural features, allowing for a better annotation and sequence comparisons.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic legacy of tertiary climatic change: a case study of two freshwater loaches, Schistura fasciolata and Pseudogastromyzon myersi, in Hong Kong

TL;DR: Fine-scale phylogeographic patterns of two freshwater loaches in Hong Kong suggest that sea-level fluctuation played an important role in shaping even the fine-scale population structure of freshwater fish in South China, implying that the genetic diversity of this fauna may be higher than expected.
