Chemotherapy followed by surgery compared with surgery alone for localized esophageal cancer
David P. Kelsen,Robert J. Ginsberg,Thomas F. Pajak,Daniel G. Sheahan,Leonard L. Gunderson,Joanne E. Mortimer,Norman C. Estes,Daniel G. Haller,Jaffer A. Ajani,Walter Kocha,Bruce D. Minsky,Jack A. Roth +11 more
TL;DR: Preoperative chemotherapy with a combination of cisplatin and fluorouracil did not improve overall survival among patients with epidermoid cancer or adenocarcinoma of the esophagus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term results of RTOG trial 8911 (USA intergroup 113): A random assignment trial comparison of chemotherapy followed by surgery compared with surgery alone for esophageal cancer
D. P. Kelsen,Katryn A. Winter,Leonard L. Gunderson,Joanne E. Mortimer,Norman C. Estes,Daniel G. Haller,J. A. Ajani,Walter Kocha,Bruce D. Minsky,Jack A. Roth,Christopher G. Willett +10 more
TL;DR: For patients with localized esophageal cancer, whether or not preoperative chemotherapy is administered, only an R0 resection results in substantial long-term survival, even microscopically positive margins are an ominous prognostic factor.
Journal ArticleDOI
A phase II clinical and pharmacodynamic study of temsirolimus in advanced neuroendocrine carcinomas.
Ignacio Duran,J. Kortmansky,D. Singh,H. Hirte,Walter Kocha,Glenwood D. Goss,Lisa W. Le,Amit M. Oza,Trudey Nicklee,James Ho,Diana C. Birle,Gregory R. Pond,Arboine D,Janet Dancey,Sarit Aviel-Ronen,Ming-Sound Tsao,David W. Hedley,Lillian L. Siu +17 more
TL;DR: Temsirolimus appears to have little activity and does not warrant further single-agent evaluation in advanced NEC, and pharmacodynamic analysis revealed effective mTOR pathway downregulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Continued Cigarette Smoking by Patients Receiving Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy for Limited-Stage Small-Cell Lung Cancer Is Associated With Decreased Survival
Gregory M.M Videtic,Larry W. Stitt,A. Rashid Dar,Walter Kocha,Anna Tomiak,P. Truong,Mark Vincent,Edward Yu +7 more
TL;DR: LSCLC patients who continue to smoke during chemoradiotherapy during CHT/RT have poorer survival rates than those who do not, and smoking did not have an impact on the rate of treatment interruptions attributed to toxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI
NANETS consensus guideline for the diagnosis and management of neuroendocrine tumors: well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors of the thorax (includes lung and thymus).
Alexandria T. Phan,Kjell Öberg,Junsung Choi,Lynn H. Harrison,Manal M. Hassan,Jonathan R. Strosberg,Eric P. Krenning,Walter Kocha,Eugene A. Woltering,William J. Maples +9 more
TL;DR: Final treatment recommendations for patients with either bronchial or thymic neuroendocrine NETs of the thorax should be individualized, weighing the risks and benefits of therapy.
