On September 14, 2015 at 09:50:45 UTC the two detectors of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory simultaneously observed a transient gravitational-wave signal. The signal sweeps upwards in frequency from 35 to 250 Hz with a peak gravitational-wave strain of 1.0×10(-21). It matches the waveform predicted by general relativity for the inspiral and merger of a pair of black holes and the ringdown of the resulting single black hole. The signal was observed with a matched-filter signal-to-noise ratio of 24 and a false alarm rate estimated to be less than 1 event per 203,000 years, equivalent to a significance greater than 5.1σ. The source lies at a luminosity distance of 410(-180)(+160)  Mpc corresponding to a redshift z=0.09(-0.04)(+0.03). In the source frame, the initial black hole masses are 36(-4)(+5)M⊙ and 29(-4)(+4)M⊙, and the final black hole mass is 62(-4)(+4)M⊙, with 3.0(-0.5)(+0.5)M⊙c(2) radiated in gravitational waves. All uncertainties define 90% credible intervals. These observations demonstrate the existence of binary stellar-mass black hole systems. This is the first direct detection of gravitational waves and the first observation of a binary black hole merger.

The Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Black Hole Merger

Jet electrodeposition has the characteristics of rapid deposition with high current density, but faces the problem of tip discharge, which causes a decrease in coating surface uniformity and flatness. In this paper, scanning jet electrodeposition was adopted to optimize the tip discharge. The different nanoparticles were mixed as the reinforcing phase of Ni-Co alloy coating. Nano-CeO2/Nip mixed particles enhanced Nickel-Cobalt composite coatings on 304 stainless steel by scanning jet electrodeposition. The morphologies, texture orientation, microhardness, coating adhesion, and corrosion resistance of Ni-Co-CeO2/Ni composite coatings were characterized. The addition of nano-mixed particles (CeO2/Nip) changed the morphology of Ni-Co-CeO2/Nip composite coating from large cellular protrusion structures to fine granular structures and improved the uniformity of the composite coating. Compared with Ni-Co alloy coating, the microhardness increased from 467.8 to 524.7 HV, the adhesion between the substrate and the coating increased from 20.6 to 28.9 N, and the corrosion current density decreased from 2.413 × 10−5 to 5.598 × 10−6 A·cm−2 in Ni-Co-CeO2/Nip (4 g/L) composite coating, indicating that nano-mixed particles (CeO2/Nip) improved the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of Ni-Co alloy coating in scanning jet electrodeposition.

Do Government Subsidies Affect Analyst Forecast Accuracy?

Closed reduction and locked intramedullary nailing has become a common surgical method in the treatment of femoral shaft fractures. Overlap and rotation displacements can usually be corrected through the use of an orthopedic traction table. However, lateral displacement and angulation persist. In this paper, we describe a joystick that can be used in the closed reduction of a fracture. It can correct lateral displacement and angulation, and has the advantage of multi-direction reduction. The device described in this paper includes two parallel horizontal joysticks, one vertical main joystick and four assistant rods. Moreover, there are many specific spacing holes in the two parallel horizontal joysticks and a groove structure in the vertical main joystick. When the main “H” joystick is pressed, it can adjust lateral displacements and angulation because of the lever principle. The distance between parallel horizontal joysticks and assistant rods can be adjusted to the fracture position and body mass index of different patients. The study participants consisted of 11 males and 5 females with a mean age of 31.0 years. All participants had good closed reduction and achieved bony union without any complications such as infection, nerve injury, non-union, malunion, and limb length discrepancy. By using an “H” joystick, closed femoral shaft fracture reduction and locked intramedullary nailing becomes simpler and faster. Based on the use of this instrument, we can easily and conveniently obtain the correct reduction situation, which leads to better surgical results. This device can be applied in the reduction of clinical femoral fractures and gradually extended to the reduction of other fractures.

The design of an “H” joystick for closed reduction and its application in segmental and comminuted femoral shaft fractures: an innovative technique

. This paper briefly describes the post-processing influence assessment experiment, the experiment includes three steps: the physical simulation, image processing, and image quality assessment. The physical simulation models sampled imaging system in laboratory, the imaging system parameters are tested, the digital image serving as image processing input are produced by this imaging system with the same imaging system parameters. The gathered optical sampled images with the tested imaging parameters are processed by 3 digital image processes, including calibration pre-processing, lossy compression with different compression ratio and image post-processing with different core. Image quality assessment method used is just noticeable difference (JND) subject assessment based on ISO20462, through subject assessment of the gathered and processing images, the influence of different imaging parameters and post-processing to image quality can be found. The six JND subject assessment experimental data can be validated each other. Main conclusions include: image post-processing can improve image quality; image post-processing can improve image quality even with lossy compression, image quality with higher compression ratio improves less than lower ratio; with our image post-processing method, image quality is better, when camera MTF being within a small range.
