Superconductivity Modulated by Quantum Size Effects

TL;DR: The observed oscillatory behavior of the superconducting transition temperature when the film thickness was increased by one atomic layer at a time suggests the possibility of modifying superconductivity and other physical properties of a thin film by exploiting well-controlled and thickness-dependent quantum size effects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Band gap narrowing of titanium oxide semiconductors by noncompensated anion-cation codoping for enhanced visible-light photoactivity.

TL;DR: "Noncompensated n-p codoping" is established as an enabling concept for enhancing the visible-light photoactivity of TiO2 by narrowing its band gap using scanning tunneling spectroscopy, dramatically redshifted optical absorbance, and enhanced photoactivity manifested by efficient electron-hole separation in thevisible-light region.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interface engineering of quantum Hall effects in digital transition metal oxide heterostructures

TL;DR: It is predicted that LaAuO(3) bilayers have a topologically non-trivial energy gap of about 0.15 eV, which is sufficiently large to realize the quantum spin Hall effect at room temperature.
