Journal ArticleDOI
Low serum zinc concentrations predict mortality in patients referred to coronary angiography.
Stefan Pilz,Harald Dobnig,Brigitte M. Winklhofer-Roob,Wilfried Renner,Ursula Seelhorst,Britta Wellnitz,Bernhard O. Boehm,Winfried März +7 more
TL;DR: The present results suggest that zinc deficiency may contribute to a reduced life expectancy in patients scheduled for coronary angiography, and serum zinc concentrations correlated negatively with age and markers of inflammation and positively with antioxidants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 Is an Independent and Specific Predictor of Mortality in Patients With Heart Failure and Reduced Ejection Fraction
Lorenz Koller,Marcus E. Kleber,Vincent Brandenburg,Georg Goliasch,Bernhard Richter,Patrick Sulzgruber,Hubert Scharnagl,Günther Silbernagel,Tanja B. Grammer,Graciela E. Delgado,Andreas Tomaschitz,Stefan Pilz,Rudolf Berger,Deddo Mörtl,Martin Hülsmann,Richard Pacher,Winfried März,Alexander Niessner +17 more
TL;DR: FGF-23 is independently associated with an increased risk of mortality in patients with HFrEF but not in those with HF with preserved ejection fraction, suggesting a different pathophysiologic role for both entities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Critical Appraisal of Large Vitamin D Randomized Controlled Trials
Stefan Pilz,Christian Trummer,Verena Theiler-Schwetz,Martin R. Grübler,Nicolas Verheyen,Balazs Odler,Spyridon N. Karras,Armin Zittermann,Winfried März +8 more
TL;DR: The recent large vitamin D RCTs did not challenge the beneficial effects of vitamin D regarding rickets and osteomalacia, that therefore continue to provide the scientific basis for nutritional vitamin D guidelines and recommendations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Homoarginine and Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease: Results from the Mild to Moderate Kidney Disease Study
Christiane Drechsler,Barbara Kollerits,Andreas Meinitzer,Winfried März,Eberhard Ritz,Paul König,Ulrich Neyer,Stefan Pilz,Stefan Pilz,Christoph Wanner,Florian Kronenberg +10 more
TL;DR: Homoarginine concentrations are directly correlated with kidney function and are significantly associated with the progression of CKD, which might be an early indicator of kidney failure and a potential target for the prevention of disease progression.
Journal ArticleDOI
C-Peptide Levels Are Associated With Mortality and Cardiovascular Mortality in Patients Undergoing Angiography The LURIC study
Nikolaus Marx,Guenther Silbernagel,Vincent Brandenburg,Mathias Burgmaier,Marcus E. Kleber,Tanja B. Grammer,Bernhard R. Winkelmann,Bernhard O. Boehm,Winfried März,Winfried März,Winfried März +10 more
TL;DR: In patients undergoing coronary angiography, C-peptide levels are independently associated with all cause and cardiovascular mortality as well as presence and severity of coronary artery disease.
