Journal ArticleDOI
Breast cancer stem cells transition between epithelial and mesenchymal states reflective of their normal counterparts
Suling Liu,Yang Cong,Dong Wang,Yu-Min Sun,Lu Deng,Yajing Liu,Rachel Martin-Trevino,Li Shang,Sean P. McDermott,Melissa D. Landis,Su-Hyung Hong,April Adams,Rosemarie C. D'Angelo,Christophe Ginestier,Emmanuelle Charafe-Jauffret,Shawn G. Clouthier,Daniel Birnbaum,Stephen T. C. Wong,Ming Zhan,Jenny C. Chang,Max S. Wicha +20 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the plasticity of BCSCs that allows them to transition between EMT- and MET-like states endows these cells with the capacity for tissue invasion, dissemination, and growth at metastatic sites.
Journal ArticleDOI
RAD51 mediates resistance of cancer stem cells to PARP inhibition in triple-negative breast cancer
Yajing Liu,Monika L. Burness,Rachel Martin-Trevino,Joey L Guy,Shoumin Bai,Ramdane Harouaka,Michael D. Brooks,Li Shang,Alexandra Lucienne Fox,Tahra Luther,April Davis,Trenton L. Baker,Justin A. Colacino,Shawn G. Clouthier,Zhi Ming Shao,Max S. Wicha,Suling Liu +16 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that in both BRCA1-mutant and BRCa1–wild-type TNBCs, CSCs are relatively resistant to PARP inhibition, suggesting that strategies aimed at targeting RAD51 may increase the therapeutic efficacy of PARPi.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lack of correlation of stem cell markers in breast cancer stem cells
Yajing Liu,Rudolf Nenutil,M. V.C.L. Appleyard,Karen Murray,Michael T. Boylan,Alastair M. Thompson,Philip J. Coates +6 more
TL;DR: The expression of multiple cancer stem cell markers in human breast cancer samples and cell lines in vitro and in vivo is investigated, comparing across and within samples and relating expression with growth and therapeutic response to doxorubicin, docetaxol and radiotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
MicroRNA100 Inhibits Self-Renewal of Breast Cancer Stem–like Cells and Breast Tumor Development
Lu Deng,Li Shang,Shoumin Bai,Ji Chen,Xueyan He,Rachel Martin-Trevino,Shanshan Chen,Xiao Yan Li,Xiaojie Meng,Bin Yu,Xiaolin Wang,Yajing Liu,Sean P. McDermott,Alexa E. Ariazi,Christophe Ginestier,Ingrid Ibarra,Jia Ke,Tahra Luther,Shawn G. Clouthier,Liang Xu,Ge Shan,Erwei Song,Heruui Yao,Gregory J. Hannon,Stephen J. Weiss,Max S. Wicha,Suling Liu +26 more
TL;DR: Evidence implicating the miR100 in self-renewal of cancer stem-like cells (CSC) is reported, and expression levels relate to the cellular differentiation state, with lowest expression in cells displaying stem cell markers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of the Unfolded Protein Response via Inhibition of Protein Disulfide Isomerase Decreases the Capacity for DNA Repair to Sensitize Glioblastoma to Radiotherapy.
Yajing Liu,Wenbin Ji,Andrea Shergalis,Jiaqi Xu,Jiaqi Xu,Amy Marie Delaney,Andrew Calcaterra,Anupama Pal,Mats Ljungman,Nouri Neamati,Alnawaz Rehemtulla +10 more
TL;DR: These findings identify PDIA1 as a therapeutic target in GBM by demonstrating efficacy of its inhibition in combination with radiotherapy through a novel mechanism involving downregulation of DNA repair genes.
