TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a method for managing network element state information (NESI), which includes storing a preferred transport protocol (PTP), obtaining a preferred serialization encoding (PSE), determining, in response to the state information request, that a program specific representation (PSR) on a network element is populated with the NESI, serializing the PSR using the PSE, and transmitting a serialized PSR, to the target entity, using the stored PTP.
Abstract: In general, embodiments of the invention relate to a method for managing network element state information (NESI). The method includes receiving, from a target entity, a state information request, storing a preferred transport protocol (PTP), obtaining a preferred serialization encoding (PSE), determining, in response to the state information request, that a program specific representation (PSR) on a network element is populated with the NESI, serializing the PSR using the PSE, and transmitting a serialized PSR, to the target entity, using the stored PTP.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for selective route download (SRD) in network devices is proposed. But the method requires the first route selection list to be obtained by a network device and the route map changes to be attributed to the SRD selection list.
Abstract: A method for selective route download (SRD) in network devices. The method includes obtaining, by a network device, a first SRD route selection list. The method further includes identifying a first route to be installed in the FIB, based on the first SRD route selection list, including making a first determination that a route map, based on the SRD route selection list, includes route map changes that are exclusively attributed to the SRD route selection list. Identifying the first route further includes making a second determination that the route map changes are exclusively expressed using a prefix list, and based on the first and the second determinations, selecting the first route from a border gateway protocol (BGP) routing information base (RIB), by processing only routes in the BGP RIB that have prefixes matching changed prefixes in the prefix list. The method also includes updating the FIB with the first route.

TL;DR: In WDM PON, a number of wavelengths are used to provision bandwidth to ONUs in both upstream and downstream, rather than sharing a single wavelength in each stream in TDM PON.
Abstract: By taking advantage of the huge bandwidth provision of wavelength channels, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) passive optical network (PON) has become a promising future-proof access network technology to meet the rapidly increasing traffic demands resulted from the popularization of Internet and sprouting of bandwidth-demanding applications [7, 126]. In WDM PON, a number of wavelengths are used to provision bandwidth to ONUs in both upstream and downstream, rather than sharing a single wavelength in each stream in TDM PON. Since ONUs may share the usage of a number of wavelengths, a MAC layer control protocol is needed to coordinate the traffic transmission such that the collision between traffic from different ONUs can be avoided.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus to configure a plurality of network elements is described, and an automation controller configures each of the network elements using the separate configuration corresponding to that network element.
Abstract: A method and apparatus to configure a plurality of network elements is described. In an exemplary embodiment, an automation controller receives a plurality of labels for the plurality of network elements. Each of the plurality of labels is associated with a different configlet and each of the different configlets includes a configuration command. The automation controller further assembles the plurality of configlets into separate configurations corresponding to each of the plurality of network elements. In addition, the automation controller configures each of the plurality of network elements using the separate configuration corresponding to that network element.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus of a network element that processes changes to forwarding information is described, in which the network element receives an indication of a change to a network topology of the network.
Abstract: A method and apparatus of a network element that processes changes to forwarding information is described In an exemplary embodiment, the network element receives an indication of a change to a network topology of the network The network element forwarding information includes a first plurality of prefixes and a plurality of adjacencies and each of the first plurality of prefixes references one of the plurality of adjacencies In addition, in response to receiving the indication of the change to the network topology, the network element identifies a change to the plurality of adjacencies Furthermore, the network element updates, in-place, the plurality of adjacencies in-place with the change to the plurality adjacencies
