TL;DR: In this article, a method for virtual extensible local area network (VXLAN) encapsulation is proposed, which includes receiving a first augmented MAC frame on a first ingress port of a first network device.
Abstract: A method for virtual extensible local area network (VXLAN) encapsulation. The method includes receiving a first augmented MAC frame on a first ingress port of a first network device, where the first augmented MAC frame includes a first egress port ID (EPID), a first ingress port ID (IPID), and a first MAC frame. The method further includes identifying a first destination VXLAN tunnel endpoint (VTEP) internet protocol (IP) address based on the first EPID, where the first destination VTEP IP address is associated with a first destination VTEP. The method further includes identifying a source VTEP IP address based on the first IPID, performing VXLAN encapsulation of the first MAC frame to obtain a VXLAN frame, and sending the VXLAN frame to the first destination VTEP via a first egress port of the first network device.

TL;DR: This chapter presents a broad range of algorithmic ideas for computing quantile summaries of data streams using small space, and highlights connections among these ideas, and how techniques developed for one setting sometimes naturally lend themselves to a seemingly different setting.
Abstract: A quantile query over a set \(S\) of size \(n\), takes as input a quantile \(\phi\), \(0 < \phi \leq 1\), and returns a value \(v \in S\), whose rank in the sorted \(S\) is \(\phi n\). Computing the median, the 99-percentile, or the quartiles of a set are examples of quantile queries. Many database optimization problems involve approximate quantile computations over large data sets. Query optimizers use quantile estimates to estimate the size of intermediate results and choose an efficient plan among a set of competing plans. Load balancing in parallel databases can be done by using quantile estimates. Above all, quantile estimates can give a meaningful summary of a large data set using a very small memory footprint. In this chapter, we present a broad range of algorithmic ideas for computing quantile summaries of data streams using small space. We highlight connections among these ideas, and how techniques developed for one setting sometimes naturally lend themselves to a seemingly different setting.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for transmitting first media access control (MAC) frames from an external device to a first switch in the MLAG domain is proposed, where the external device is not a singly connected external device and based on the first determination, encapsulating the first MAC frame in a first VXLAN frame using a first virtual tunnel endpoint.
Abstract: A method for transmitting MAC frames includes receiving (300), by a first switch in the MLAG domain, a first media access control (MAC) frame from an external device, wherein the external device is directly connected to the first switch, where the MLAG domain consists of the first switch and the second switch. The method further includes making (312) a first determination that the external device is not a singly-connected external device and based on the first determination, encapsulating (316) the first MAC frame in a first VXLAN frame using a first virtual tunnel endpoint (VTEP), where the first VXLAN frame comprises a virtual VTEP Internet Protocol (IP) address, where the virtual VTEP IP address is associated with the MLAG domain. The method further includes transmitting (322) the first VXLAN frame to an IP fabric, where the first switch is directly connected to the IP fabric.

TL;DR: This paper takes a partial step toward demonstrating end-to-end interop by interoperating vendor-diverse packet switching platforms from Arista, Cisco, and Juniper, which utilize the same coherent DSP chip set, over an open line system (OLS).
Abstract: Optical line-side interoperability is a critical component for enabling cloud service providers to deploy capacity at scale with a diverse supply chain. Historically, vendor-locked line systems and proprietary coherent digital signal processing (DSP) technologies have been barriers to this goal. Advances in open line platforms and coherent interfaces embedded directly in layer-2/3 switches and routers have begun paving the way toward full end-to-end interoperation. In this paper, we take a partial step toward demonstrating end-to-end interop by interoperating vendor-diverse packet switching platforms from Arista, Cisco, and Juniper, which utilize the same coherent DSP chip set, over an open line system (OLS). All three vendors' switches feature integrated coherent optics and are shown to interoperate over 2000 km at 150G 8QAM and 1000 km at 200G 16QAM on Microsoft's OLS.
