Abstract: Development of synthesis protocols for realising nanomaterials over a range of sizes, shapes,and chemical compositions is an important aspect of nanotechnology. The remarkable size-dependent physico-chemical properties of nanoparticles have fascinated and inspired researchactivity in this direction. This paper describes some aspects on synthesis and characterisationof nanoparticles of metals, metal alloys, and oxides, either in the form of thin films or bulk shapes.A brief discussion on processing of two-phase nanocomposite magnets is also presented. Abstract: The effect of planar flow melt spinning (PFMS) parameters on the continuity, surface quality, and structure of 10-mm-wide Fe68.5Si18.5B9Nb3Cu1 ribbons has been investigated. The change in shape and stability of the melt puddle as a function of the processing parameter was studied using a high-speed imaging system and was correlated to ribbon formation. A window of process parameters for obtaining continuous ribbons with good surface quality has been evaluated. It has been observed that thinner ribbons are found to be more continuous because of higher ductility. The higher melt temperature leads to the formation of crystalline phase in as-spun ribbons, and this deteriorates the soft magnetic properties on annealing. The experimental results are corroborated with the numerical estimates, which suggest that the critical thickness for amorphous phase formation decreases with increasing initial melt temperature.

Abstract: Two aluminium alloys with nominal compositions of Al-8Fe-4Ce and Al-8Fe-1V-2Si (all compositions in wt %) were rapidly solidified by ultrasonic gas atomization. The atomized powders with an average particle size (d50) of 30 μm were vacuum hot pressed and subsequently hot extruded. The P/M extrusion exhibited similar microstructure and elevated temperature tensile properties. The tensile and stress rupture samples of both the alloys exhibited ductile dimple failure. However, the Al-Fe-V-Si extrusion samples exhibited significantly better creep and stress rupture properties. The Al-Fe-Ce alloy was found to be more susceptible to cavitation at elevated temperatures which resulted in poor stress rupture properties.

TL;DR: In this article, the steady state creep data covering almost five orders of magnitude in creep rate shows to distinct regimes of creep deformation at all the temperatures, in the high stress regime (region-II), the creep data shows high and variable apparent stress exponents, 25-30 and high apparent activation energy, 372 kJ/mol.
