Multiparty Non-Interactive Key Exchange and More From Isogenies on Elliptic Curves

Abstract: We describe a framework for constructing an efficient non-interactive key exchange (NIKE) protocol for n parties for any n >= 2 Our approach is based on the problem of computing isogenies between isogenous elliptic curves, which is believed to be difficult We do not obtain a working protocol because of a missing step that is currently an open mathematical problem What we need to complete our protocol is an efficient algorithm that takes as input an abelian variety presented as a product of isogenous elliptic curves, and outputs an isomorphism invariant of the abelian variety Our framework builds a cryptographic invariant map, which is a new primitive closely related to a cryptographic multilinear map, but whose range does not necessarily have a group structure Nevertheless, we show that a cryptographic invariant map can be used to build several cryptographic primitives, including NIKE, that were previously constructed from multilinear maps and indistinguishability obfuscation

Interpersonal Dependency in Child Abuse Perpetrators and Victims: A Meta-Analytic Review

Abstract: Meta-analysis of studies assessing interpersonal dependency in child abuse perpetrators (N of studies = 7) and victims (N of studies = 9) indicated that perpetrators have higher dependency levels than nonabusing controls (d = 0.43), and child abuse victims have higher dependency levels in early adulthood than people who were not abused as children (d = 0.47). An array of other personality traits and disorders showed comparable associations with abuse suggesting that in both populations increased dependency reflects a generalized increase in pathology and distress. Theoretical implications of these results are discussed, and suggestions for future research on dependency and abuse are offered.

Abstract: Ecomedia: Key Issues is a comprehensive textbook introducing the burgeoning field of ecomedia studies to provide an overview of the interface between environmental issues and the media globally. Linking the world of media production, distribution, and consumption to environmental understandings, the book addresses ecological meanings encoded in media texts, the environmental impacts of media production, and the relationships between media and cultural perceptions of the environment. Each chapter introduces a distinct type of media, addressing it in a theoretical overview before engaging with specific case studies. In this way, the book provides an accessible introduction to each form of media as well as a sophisticated analysis of relevant cases. The book includes contributions from a combination of new voices and well-established media scholars from across the globe who examine the basic concepts and key issues of ecomedia studies. The concepts of "frames," "flow", and "convergence" structure a dynamic collection divided into three parts. The first part addresses traditional visual texts, such as comics, photography, and film. Impact of Treatment with Rosiglitazone or Metformin on Biomarkers for Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Syndrome in Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Abstract: Background:There is increasing evidence that insulin resistance (IR) has an important implication in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common endocrinopathy in women. This study was performed to investigate the impact of different treatments for IR on five currently discussed markers for insulin resistance: Intact proinsulin, adiponectin, retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4), resistin, and visfatin in patients with PCOS.Methods:Thirty-five women with clinically confirmed PCOS diagnosis were included in the study [age (mean±SD): 24.7±4.8 years; body mass index: 27.4+6.0 kg/m2]. They were randomized to receive either metformin (850 mg twice a day) or rosiglitazone (4 mg once a day). Blood samples for measurement of the HOMAIR score, visfatin, RBP4, intact proinsulin, resisitin, and adiponectin were taken at baseline and after 6 months of treatment.Results:Both drugs improved ovulation, and an increase in insulin sensitivity was observed, especially in the rosiglitazone arm.
